Visited first time since they took over from the previous business for lunch today. First off: where was the door? No sign to say 'entry', I had to walk along their front to find the small 'pull' sign (because, why would you put menus at the entrance when it can be placed at other end?). No greetings upon meeting the first staff (minus one star), just staring and looking at me ('sit wherever', indicates the near-empty restaurant) - not good first impression, and unfortunately for them, they don't get a second chance at first impression. Huge menu, it was hard what exactly they were going for. I stuck to what I wanted to try: congee and fried dough sticks (youtiao). I ordered the sampan congee and my friend ordered the beef congee. For the price, I wish the serving were bigger (minus another star), it was not good value for money. While my sampan congee tasted OK my only wish was it could be bigger. The huge menu would be the ONLY enticement to make me come back because the service is not encouraging at all: the guy serving my table looked like he did not want to be there, so unfriendly (he should smile more) and took forever to do one simple thing, there were only two other tables when we walked in. One customer at another table had to constantly go up to the counter to get some things from the attendant. It was not a good look. And one table just helped themselves to ice, didn't bother waiting for service. This tells me a lot about their bad service (minus another star) in general; a red flag, if you will. By the time we left at noon, no one was coming in the door. I wonder why. The only thing that would lure (yes, lure) me back is the huge menu, but even that might not be enough. One of the staff did confirmed they are the same owner/franchise as the one that used to be in Haymarket, but they have moved to Burwood. I sure hope the Burwood one is doing better than Cabramatta. I do not recommend Hong Kong Cafe Cabramatta because it was not a good first experience for my friend and I. At all.
They finally decided that Sydney South-West, Hong Kong cafe was worthy of opening one. Now there is a cafe to look forward to going too whenever we shop at Cabramatta. The cafe is located along Hughes Street, opposite the train station, just a few minutes walk to the cafe. Hong Kong cafe had been opened for a few weeks, but today on 8 June 2024 they were offering a grand opening special to customers for a week. This included a 15% discount off the bill and scratch & win food prizes such as free curry fish balls and pineapple bun. Our luck of the day just kicked in and we won both dishes for free on top of the food we already ordered. If you have ever dined at Hong Kong cafe, you know what to expect. There’s been a mixed bag of reviews saying how terrible the service has been, that is likely the case to any new restaurant you visit (I mean who is perfect on their opening day, week or month?). Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for us and we got exceptional service on grand opening day what a surprise. Other reviewers mention that food tasted average and that we will agree to some extent. It’s acceptable, but it’s not exceptional. Ceylon tea is okay, tea could be a little stronger in my opinion. My only negative is the size of the dish, it’s rather small and doesn’t justify the price. However we got a discount and some freebies, I’m not going to complain but say we got a great deal.
Lovely food and great food, couldn't ask for more! Always come back for the French Toast and Century Duck Egg Congee. My hubby loves their noodles. Huge menu with many options to try. Love the Hong Kong Milk Tea with condensed milk. Will always come back, thank you! ❤️
We went there for the first time coz we always want to try out this restaurant, I was kinda worried if the chicken overcooked but guess this restaurant is one on my favourite list now. The food is so delicious, will be going back there any time soon 😁
3/5 I ordered the stirfry beef noodles, generous serving but it was so bland, lacked seasoning $20 Staff were very nice though
