The oaks is a great hotel First thing you notuce: massive tree in the middle of the beer garden. Coincidence? Doubt it..... Trees absorb carbon dioxide. Humans exhale carbon dioxide. Why would they put a giant tree right where everyone's drinking? Makes ya think.... Anyway, ordered a schnitty the size of a hubcap and a couple of beers. Outstanding. The sort of meal that makes you briefly forget about the secret tunnel network beneath Canberra. Staff were friendly, efficient and suspiciously competent. Every time my glass got low, someone appeared. Not saying they're using advanced surveillance technology, but I'm not NOT saying it either. Atmosphere was top shelf. Tradies, office workers, families, blokes discussing footy like they're on the selection panel. The kind of place where you can spend six hours solving global conspiracies on a beer coaster and nobody asks for your credentials. The Oaks has great food, cold beer and just enough ambient confusion to keep a man asking questions. If ya see me there. Come and say hello 5 stars. Wake up Australia. But also get the schnitty. It's excellent — Baz 🦘🍺👽
The Oaks is an excellent choice if you are looking for a place to enjoy good food, quality drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. I am very glad I decided to visit, as the experience was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. This venue is perfect for groups and makes a fantastic spot to spend a weekend with friends or family. There are several distinct sections within the venue, each catering to different occasions. There is a lively bar area, a space that appears suitable for private gatherings, and a beautiful open courtyard. We chose to sit outside, close to the magnificent oak tree that gives the venue its name, and it created a lovely, relaxed setting. The drinks were excellent, offering a great selection and prepared with care. The food quality was outstanding—flavourful, well presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Every dish we tried was impressive and matched the high standard set by the venue. The service was equally noteworthy. The staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. Whether you are looking for a casual catch-up, a weekend celebration, or simply a spot to enjoy a great meal and drinks in a charming setting, The Oaks is well worth a visit. The combination of its beautiful surroundings, excellent food and drinks, and warm service makes it a place I would happily return to and recommend to others.
Very disappointing experience. We spent over $500 on order, including three bottles of champagne and desserts, yet while we were ordering and asking a few questions, we could clearly see staff and the manager, Hannah, whispering about us and making us feel like they were talking behind our backs. As someone who works in hospitality myself, this was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. No guest should ever feel judged or mocked for asking questions. Such a shame, as it really ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening. Choose your staff wisely!!
Paid $32 for a parmi $2 for sauce. Ordered at 8:00pm on a Friday and waited a full hour for it to arrive. Asked staff on 2 occasions where the food was and there was no follow up. The mushroom sauce was room temperature and parmi just warm. This, $32 and an hour long wait makes this the worst pub feed I’ve had. The portion of the chicken is ridiculous and to call the rocket a “salad” is a joke. This is more than an hours wage for young Aussies. Never coming back unless portions/menu option and service improves. Photo taken 3 bites in to the parmi, nothing else touched
This place is a nice quiet spot tucked away in the Cremorne area. It’s a laid back lounge vibe. Being from America I had to come back after my first visit. My friend and I have visited here three times now. The food and drinks are just too good to pass up. Grab a cocktail. Share a snack. Enjoy the beautiful afternoon under the oak tree.
