Stopped by Bar Hernandez on a Wednesday evening after an early finish at work. Ever since returning from Spain and discovering this place existed in Sydney, it had been high on my list. The venue has a relaxed, effortlessly cool vibe, and owner David made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. His passion for every facet of this gem is contagious, so I happily followed a few of his recommendations. When he mentioned the tortilla and Basque cheesecake were homemade by his family, resistance became futile. Both were outstanding. The drinks selection is fantastic, particularly the vermouth, with plenty of options you won’t find elsewhere. I also loved the collection of cookbooks and deli products throughout the venue. A friend joined me later in the evening and we left happy, full and already planning a return visit. If you’re looking for a little slice of Spain in Sydney, this is a great place to start.

The staff are always incredibly attentive (Cosco & Alberto), which makes the customer service truly excellent. The drink and product tastings are a standout, love a gordal olive in my 50/50. It’s such a great way to try new, interesting, and unexpected things (think white anchovies or boquerones, which I’d normally avoid, but these were absolutely delicious). Consider me sold! The venue itself is warm and homely, a total sensory overload in the best way. It’s also an amazing pantry and bottle shop if you feel like taking home a little piece of Europe to enjoy later. The whole team makes you feel genuinely welcome and is always up for a chat, including Dave, the owner. Dave knows every product on the menu inside out, its history, origin, and exactly what to recommend based on your taste buds. Even our dog loves the place! But Dave, mate, please bring back Mum’s homemade Basque cheesecake. Delicioso. We regularly pop in on a Friday on our way home, and it’s definitely become a favourite for all the reasons above. We recently had birthday drinks here with friends who hadn’t visited before, and they loved the food, drinks, and overall experience. Converted! Thanks, guys.

I love this bar. What made me stay and keep coming back were the bartenders, Enzo and Elliot. They made me feel truly welcome from the start and created such a warm, friendly atmosphere. They really made me feel at home, and their service was always genuine, attentive, and fun. The drinks were great, the vibe was amazing, and the whole experience felt special because of them. Highly recommend this place if you want great energy, good service, and a place where you feel looked after.
