I understand this review will be somewhat polarising, however I believe it to be an accurate representation of our lunch at Cafe Margaret. We arrived and were shown to our seats and started reviewing the menu. With entrees and mains decided upon, drinks were ordered and we sat in the windows seats feeling rather content. Entrees arrived swiftly, which was a lovely surprise. The sashimi tuna dish was one of the best dishes of that style we have had, even in Japan. It was amazing. The miso/honey dressing was killer and the tuna was amazingly fresh. Next were the prawn cutlets, which our server thoughtfully expanded to 4 pieces - 2 each. Again, amazing fresh produce, thoughtfully handled and accompanied by the fermented chilli mayo. Very good start indeed. Unfortunately, now is where things go significantly downhill. Now, whilst I would not consider myself to be a cheeseburger connoisseur, this burger which was recently rated #3 in the world and therefore #1 in Australia, was not that at all. The patty was ordered medium well and came medium rare (chefs recommendation, not my order) and cold. Which was strange, because the juices had run out of said patty thus making the bottom bun an almost indistinguishable, sloppy mess. Maybe cutting the burger and then letting it sit for some time is not the best. This example is/was not up to the standard we expected from the hype and definitely not even close to the standard of the entrees. In fact, this burger was not even the best burger I've had. Extremely disappointing. Next up was my wife's crab pasta. Again, this looked to have been sitting for a while and came out very dry and with a crumb-like topping on it that exacerbated that dryness. The flavour was also lacking, until in the end, she declared it inedible. Again, extremely disappointing. On a final note, we also noted a distinct lack of seasoning across the cutlets, burger and pasta. I'm not sure if the chef was new and/or having a bad day, however those three dishes were very bland. In the end, we paid our bill and left - disappointed. Definitely not the experience we had been building to in the weeks leading up to our visit to Sydney.

It was a lovely night to check the burger out. The best? Not necessarily. (Tried the Gidley’s a few days later and definitely preferred Margaret’s.) But it made me think of coming back as it’s definitely a really fresh good cheese burger in my area. Also liked the dessert. Thank you. Would love to try Margaret sometime.

Ah, damn! This was unsurprisingly great. We had a baby for the first time with us and the staff/atmosphere was very accommodating. If you know me though, you know why we were here though and, yes... it was a good as you think it is. Just do it. Don't act coy. Get the burger.

Had a great lunch experience at Cafe today. The food was delicious and full of flavor. Best hospitality service, friendly and very welcome. My favourite dish is the ravioli. Perfectly cooked and rich of flavor.

The Fettuccine with Spanner crab, chilli, garlic and lemon was overly salty and I don’t see what the hype was with the American cheeseburger 200g CopperTree Farms beef patty with rose mayo, onion and pickles. It tastes like every other burger I’ve had. The customer service is friendly and the dining area is minimal in decor which I liked. I wouldn’t order either dish again. I would recommend ordering the Basque Cheesecake. It was really good. I would give this place another go in the future. P.S. They charge for water as well.
