The Firehouse Hotel in North Sydney is one of those spots that feels like a solid go to for a casual meal or drinks with friends. We visited for lunch and I went with the chicken parmi. It was exactly what you want from a pub style parmi, with crispy chicken, gooey cheese and a tasty sauce that hit all the right notes. The serving size was generous, leaving you feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. The pub itself was clean, well kept and had a relaxed vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience easy and enjoyable. The menu had a good range of options for anyone in the group, whether you are after something classic like a parmi or just want a simple feed. Overall, Firehouse Hotel is a great spot in North Sydney for a casual meal or catch up with friends. The chicken parmi is definitely worth trying and we will be coming back.
We had a great experience at Firehouse in North Sydney. The food was delicious and well-prepared, with a creative twist that made the menu feel a bit different from typical places. The atmosphere had a really nice vibe—relaxed yet lively—which made it perfect for a team catch-up or casual meeting. It’s also convenient that you don’t need a reservation, making it easy to plan last-minute gatherings. The place is not too quiet, with a moderate to loud noise level, so it feels energetic and social rather than overly calm. Overall, a solid choice if you’re looking for tasty food and a comfortable, vibrant setting.
Used to be our fave place in Nth Sydney. But twice in a row we've been waiting 30-45 minutes to get slightly warm food. Must have been forgotten and left too long under a heat lamp. Have had warmer Uber Eats arrive on a cold night... First time we were offered a refund (after we ate the luke warm food that we were told could be re-heated) and it was clear that people ordering after us got food, ate and left before we got our cold plates of hot food. So there was a mix up and heat lamp sunbake for our fish meals. The second time we were offered a free bowl of chips... I refused. Why would I stay and wait to eat hot chips by themselves? I guess it's time to try somewhere else. Menu has changed, a $30 salad was barely there, and now there's no fish option other than fish n chips or salmon. Gone is the barramundi... Gourmet prices for this? It's not cheap and cheerful. It's simply not as good as it used to be here at the Firehouse... 2 stars for food. Staff are trying but then blame new menu or confusion in kitchen with no communication to the team at the bar. Honesty was refreshing but took a while to follow up with a refund, we had ate and almost left. So 3 stars for staff and 4 stars for the old building... Love that space, but nuh, yeah, nuh... Maybe I'd stop for a beer but time to explore other options for meals.
We recently held a work catch-up at this venue with a group of approximately 12 people and, unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. From the outset, there appeared to be significant confusion with our orders. Multiple meals were delivered to the wrong people, our table's order was mixed up with another table, and the wait staff seemed unsure of what was happening throughout the evening. We repeatedly received incorrect dishes and spent a considerable amount of time trying to sort out the mistakes. The food service was also very slow and poorly coordinated. Meals arrived at staggered intervals, with the final two meals not being served until the rest of our group had already finished eating. This left those guests eating alone long after everyone else had completed their meals. To their credit, one of the managers apologised and advised that the last two meals would be complimentary due to the delays and errors. However, when the bill arrived, those meals had still been charged, adding further frustration to an already disappointing experience. Given the size of our group and the amount we spent, we expected a much higher level of service and organisation. Mistakes can happen, but the overall lack of coordination, communication and follow-through demonstrated poor service and professionalism. Unfortunately, this experience did not leave a positive impression.
I’ve been ordering the Atlantic salmon here regularly and it’s usually one of my favourite dishes. I had it again today and noticed the salad has changed. Unfortunately, the new rocket and cauliflower salad was quite average compared to the previous one, which was much more flavourful and complemented the salmon beautifully. The salmon itself was still excellent, but I’d love to see the original salad return.
