Felt like it took forever for the burgers to arrive. They were quite good, a good balance of meat, cheese and bun in Cheese burger. I loved the texture of soft bun paired with smashed patty, generously seasoned with salt. Burger comes with side of fries so price tag of 24 is quite ok.

Has to be the best burger I've had. And 100s of people would agree on that statement. The atmosphere is great too. It really encompasses 100% of Newtown. Bar staff and food staff are always friendly. And if you ever get a chance to go to the one north of the bridge, you'll still find the owner coming in to work behind the grill now and again. Top top top place to eat.

If I die, bury me at Mary’s Newtown and drown me in their cheeseburgers. I genuinely cannot explain how hard this place hits. The food is incredible, but before I get to that, let’s start with finding the place itself. I visited Mary’s Newtown in June 2026 on a weekday with some friends. We walked over from a friend’s house nearby, but it’s also only a short walk from Newtown Station and right off the main street. That said, if you’re not paying attention, you could easily walk straight past it. It has a bit of a hidden gem feel to it, which I think adds to the charm. Once you head inside, the venue opens up into a surprisingly large multi level dining space with a bar, plenty of seating, toilets, and some seriously cool decorations. We were able to choose from a few tables and ended up grabbing one in the back corner on a raised platform next to one of the coolest wax sculptures. The whole place has a very unique aesthetic, with writing covering the walls, hanging dead flowers, dim lighting, and a vibe that somehow combines spooky gothic energy with a truck stop burger joint. It sounds strange, but it works so well. After being seated by one of the lovely staff members, we were brought water and directed to order through the QR code on the table. The menu had plenty of options, with a range of burgers, sides, desserts and drinks to choose from. We all went all in on burgers. I ordered the cheeseburger while my friends chose a few different options from the menu. One of my friends also added the mash and gravy along with a chocolate chip cookie. The food arrived surprisingly quickly and everything came out fresh, hot and smelling incredible. The cheeseburger was honestly one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. The meat was juicy, the cheese was perfect, and every bite absolutely hit the spot. One of my friends declared it the best burger in Australia and, after trying it myself, I can absolutely understand why people make that claim. The chips were spot on, the mash and gravy were packed with flavour, and the cookie was ridiculously good too. My friend shared a piece with us and it was soft, crumbly and had that perfect sweet and salty balance. We took our time eating and soaking up the atmosphere because this is the kind of place you don’t want to rush through. Everywhere you look there’s something interesting on the walls, and the whole venue has so much character. The burgers aren’t cheap. Mine was around $28, and some of the larger meals with extras can easily push towards $50, but honestly, I thought it was worth every dollar. The quality of the food, the atmosphere and the experience all lived up to the hype. I absolutely loved Mary’s Newtown and can see why it’s become such a local favourite. Between the incredible burgers, unique atmosphere and friendly service, it’s one of those places that sticks with you long after you’ve left. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Sydney.

Honestly the worst burger I’ve had in my life in 01/08/2026 🤬 I need to making aware Burger lovers. I ordered one double Mari’s burger for $30 and a can of coke for $6 😡 The burger smells burnt oil ( I usually smell my food before I eat ). The taste was deep greasy and salty. This caused a psychological pain for me as I’m a burger lover and I went there to try one of the best burgers in Sydney.

Hamburger was one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the music perfectly matched the vibe.
