The Devon iced tea was refreshingly delicious a really pleasant surprise. The black truffle seasonal menu also delivered a lot of surprises. The foie gras on top of the omelette blended beautifully with the meat patty and sauce one bite in and it was absolutely delicious, with the black truffle flavor being the perfect finishing touch. The sauce in the wagyu sandwich was also wonderfully well-blended. As one of Sydney’s longtime iconic brunch spots, Devon Cafe never fails to surprise its customers.
I’ve visited this restaurant many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience, which is why this visit was such a disappointment. The soft-shell crab pasta was excessively salty, to the point where it overwhelmed all the other flavours. Even more disappointing, the soft-shell crab clearly wasn’t freshly fried. Instead of being light and crispy, it was soft and lacked the texture you would expect from a dish at this price point. The omurice was average at best. While the presentation looked appealing, the flavour was quite ordinary and failed to justify the premium price tag. The truffle ice cream served alongside it felt completely out of place and did not complement the dish at all. It seemed like a gimmick added for novelty rather than something that genuinely enhanced the dining experience. Overall, the new menu feels more focused on justifying higher prices than delivering better food. The presentation may have become more elaborate, but the quality of the dishes has noticeably declined. I understand that the restaurant has become increasingly popular and attracts plenty of tourists and social media attention, but popularity should never come at the expense of quality. Even a trendy, Instagram-friendly restaurant needs to maintain proper standards. Otherwise, it risks damaging the reputation that made people want to visit in the first place. As a long-time customer, I was genuinely shocked by how much the quality has dropped. I don’t mind paying premium prices, but I do expect premium quality in return. Unfortunately, this visit felt like the restaurant was relying on its reputation rather than earning it through the quality of its food. The current prices are simply not justified by what is being served.
It’s officially truffle season in Sydney! 🖤 Loved the seasonal truffle menu today. My favourites were the truffle pasta, truffle sandwich, and truffle wagyu hash brown. So much truffle goodness in every bite. A must-try for truffle lovers!
We had an amazing breakfast and their coffee was top notch! Thank you for the delicious breakfast and the lady who waited on was very lovely. Prices are reasonable and worth the money! You must try!
Had such a great experience at Devon Cafe! The bacon and egg okonomiyaki is an absolute must-try—so unique and packed with flavour. I also loved the Devon migoreng, which was perfectly cooked and super satisfying. The environment is really nice, relaxed, and welcoming—perfect for catching up with friends or just enjoying a good meal. What really made the visit stand out though was the staff. Sumi, Adi, Yam, and Sanny were all incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back again!
