I’ve been to 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle quite a few times and often eat at their CBD location because the noodles are consistently delicious and the service is usually good. That’s why I decided to give the Bondi Junction store a try. The braised beef noodle here tastes a bit different from the CBD branch. I actually prefer the lamb noodle, although it usually takes longer to come out. One of the staff members explained that the lamb needs to be heated in a microwave first, which is why it takes extra time. However, during my most recent visit, the lamb noodle arrived unusually quickly. Unfortunately, the lamb was only lukewarm and the noodles were completely cold, which made me wonder whether the heating step had been skipped. Another confusing experience was when I was asked whether I was dining in or taking away. After I said I was dining in, I wasn’t given a tray. I noticed other customers had trays, so I asked if I could have one. I was told they were very short on trays and that it would be appreciated if I returned it after finishing my meal. That would have been understandable, except I later noticed trays were sitting all around the dining area and nobody seemed to be collecting them. I still made the effort to return mine after eating, only to be told to leave it in the public return area with the used dishes and recycling. At that point, I couldn’t really understand the logic behind asking customers to personally return trays to staff.

I visited just after 2 PM today. I was clearly the second person in line waiting to order when a group of four older Chinese customers arrived and casually cut in front of me. They definitely saw me standing there, yet positioned themselves right beside me, obviously preparing to jump the queue. Maybe they thought they could get away with it because I’m a small Asian woman wearing glasses. Three of the women went to grab seats while the older man stayed behind. The moment the couple in front of me finished ordering and walked away, he aggressively stepped directly in front of me and started ordering in Chinese to the staff. I tried to stay calm at first, but I was already having a rough day, so I decided to speak up properly. I clearly said, three times and in a loud voice, “Excuse me, I’m next in line. I was here before you.” The man completely ignored me as if I were invisible and just kept ordering. What made the experience even worse was that the staff member (a Chinese girl wearing glasses) watched the entire situation happen and did absolutely nothing except awkwardly smile. She never once told the customer to stop cutting the line. If the staff are only going to side with and accommodate Chinese-speaking customers, then maybe they should just put up a sign saying non-Chinese customers aren’t welcome. The whole experience was disgusting and incredibly upsetting. For context, I’m also half Chinese myself, but I don’t speak much Chinese, so I addressed the situation entirely in English. This was honestly one of the most infuriating and unpleasant experiences I’ve had in years.

It was nice. Now I find they put in too many spices and everything just numbs your tongue and is very salty. It's not spicy, it's just overwhelming. It's ok at the start but becomes unpleasant soon after. Eta: portions are shrinking slightly (see last photos). Flavour has improved and is not as salty.

Located in the food court with authentic Chinese noodles. They were freshly pulled and are tasty, also allowing you to customise the thickness and how long it's cooked. My favourite was the fried pork dumplings.

It caught me totally off guard to find such an exceptional place in a shopping center. The food was so tasty, so good, it’s been a day and can’t stop thinking about it. The ingredients were of good quality, the lamb exquisite, and to be able to see how they did the noodles was really amusing. Thank you!
