Today was our first time visiting A Bowl Of Noodles! We all enjoyed very much. Love the decor and the vibe of this place, and the staff are full of energy. They really go the extra mile. The menu is huge and it’s slightly difficult to decide what to get, it all sounds soooo good! We tried a couple different things including the soup dumplings. Highly enjoyed and we really recommend! Will come back here.
Love this chain! Been numerous times and I always order the same 3 items! Must try their Sizzling eel with dry noodle, their spinach tofu with pumpkin sauce and their crab meat and roe with dry noodles! So tasty delicious, thank me later! Also tried their Xiao long baos tasty but the skin is slightly thicker, their crispy chicken and rice is also pretty good with a nice dipping sauce and crispy skin.
I’ve been here a few times and always end up coming back. One of the more authentic Shanghai-style noodle spots in Sydney, and the Haymarket location is almost always busy. The crab roe & prawn noodles were very fresh and flavourful, and the vinegar helped balance the richness. The eel noodles were more on the heavier side but really tasty, with tender eel and a nice soy flavour. Also tried the crispy chicken rice – crispy skin, juicy meat, and a slightly spicy soy sauce that worked really well.
Shanghai Cuisine, Central Haymarket Overall: 5/7 Really surprisingly good XLB here! Makes me want to try more of their dumpling range next time. The shop is quite small, and very very popular with fast turnover at dinner time. Best with 1-4pax. XLB, Soup dumplings: 6/7 - $12.8 Really surprised by how good these were. Rarely see somewhere do the wrappers so well - just the right thickness and texture to balance out the gelatinous soup. Think the filling could be slightly brighter with some more ginger/scallion - but this was overall really good. Fried pork chop w Rice cake: 5/7 - $20.8 Pork chop was wonderfully crispy battered and the meat wasn't dry. The sauce wasn't too sweet either which was a pleasant surprise (by Shang standards). Eel stir fry w dry noodles: 5/7 - $24.8 Needs a bit of vinegar and soy IMO, but very solid for Sydney. Eel texture isn't as bouncy as you'd like, but definitely could get this again. Braised pork chop: 3/7 - $10.8 Flavours were good... just parts of this were texturally challenging. The soggy batter and overly soft meat was quite unpleasant. Might have been better as a soup noodle topping though.
Finally found a noodle spot in the area that is actually pram-friendly! 🍜👶 The space is very clean and the staff were so welcoming with the kids. We tried the Tofu with Pumpkin Sauce (so unique and delicious!), the Fish Noodle Soup, and the Crab Roe & Prawn noodles—honestly, every dish was a 10/10. It’s rare to find a place this kid-friendly that doesn’t compromise on food quality. We’ll definitely be regulars here!
