Overall, we had a pleasant evening, and most of the dishes were genuinely delicious. The food was modern, well presented, and full of flavour, while the service was friendly and the ambience was enjoyable. One experience with the drinks menu, however, was quite confusing. One of our party ordered an Old Fashioned, and the waitress asked which whisky he would like to use. After he selected one from the menu, she returned to explain that the chosen whisky could only be served as a two-shot cocktail, bringing the price to around $50. That seemed excessive for a single cocktail and, from a customer perspective, it was unusual to be told the drink had to contain two standard drinks rather than being offered the choice of a standard serve. A little more clarity on the cocktail menu would certainly help avoid this confusion. The restaurant was also quite cold inside on a chilly evening. All four of us kept our jackets on throughout dinner, which took away from what was otherwise a comfortable atmosphere. Pricing is definitely at the premium end. Dinner for four, including drinks, came to over $600, so it’s certainly a restaurant for a special occasion rather than a casual night out. Despite those points, the quality of the food means I would happily return. With a warmer dining room and clearer, more reasonably priced cocktail options, the overall experience would be significantly improved.

This was our third visit to China Doll and it didn't disappoint. Despite hosting lots of Christmas parties, the service was excellent. We had the $65pp banquet and everything was tasty—especially the ginger scallops, the watermelon and duck salad, and the delicious Wagyu Beef Penang curry. However, the best bit was undoubtedly the pork belly—crispy, flavoursome, and a generous portion. If you go, make sure you get the pork! A great dining experience in Woolloomooloo.

Such a fun lunch spot with beautiful scenery and a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant serves fusion Chinese food that feels very approachable for Western diners, and every dish we ordered was a success. Portions were just right for sharing, so we got to try a good variety without over-ordering. The restaurant faces directly west, so the afternoon sun can get quite strong, but the staff thoughtfully brought out bamboo umbrellas for us to block the sun. A really enjoyable dining experience overall.

Our first visit to China Doll was an outstanding experience. The restaurant is set in a superb location along Woolloomooloo Wharf, offering absolutely mind-blowing harbour views that create a beautiful dining atmosphere. A special mention to Leyla, who attended to us throughout the evening. She was exceptional—guiding us through the menu with great knowledge, answering our questions with ease, and always doing so with a warm smile. Her attentiveness made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was impressive. Every dish we ordered was exceptionally good—fresh, well-flavoured, and thoughtfully prepared. Each plate was balance and it seemed to us that great care had gone into both the ingredients and presentation. With the bartender, agreeing to change the mix of our drinks was a highlight .. the special they offered as it was our anniversary really impressed us .. Absolutely memorable dining experience. Excellent service, spectacular views, and truly delicious food make China Doll a restaurant well worth visiting. We will certainly be returning.

Great food, excellent service, and genuinely friendly staff. The team made the whole experience feel welcoming and easy, and the quality of the food really stood out. Definitely a place you’d come back to without thinking twice.
