Great place for classic Sichuan dishes. Place was nicely lit and the staff were very friendly. Food service was very quick. Ordered their famous Sichuan soup with fish. The soup was nicely thick and creamy (very addicting). The fish was very tender and not too fishy. Also love the pickled vegetables, they complimented the soup and the fish well.
We were walking past Loon Fong when one of the friendly staff greeted us and give us a portable menu to look, which made us decide to give it a try, and we’re so glad we did! The restaurant is quite spacious and can fit many customers. The menu is extensive, with a great variety of dishes to choose from. It seems their specialty is the boiled fish with pickled veg, which comes in several variations, all of them looked amazing. We ordered a few different dishes, and honestly, everything we tried was absolutely delicious! (Fish, beef, lamb, chicken, choy sum and pig - all are good!) The flavors were well-balanced, not too spicy, making it perfect even for those who don’t eat spicy food (The spicy level can be changed) The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and provided very quick service. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience with great food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
We ordered the Cashew Chicken with Steamed Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The potion sizes were small and service was quite slow. The Cashew Chicken arrived first, but we had to wait another 10 minutes for the steamed rice, which was very frustrating. When I mentioned to the staff that the chicken and rice should be served together, it didn’t seem to make much difference. The food itself was bland and lacked flavour. The Chicken Fried Rice was overcooked — the rice was hard instead of fluffy and tasted overly salty. Overall, the meal was underwhelming. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Loon Fong in Sydney’s Chinatown is a great spot if you’re craving classic Chinese food done well. The honey chicken was a highlight, perfectly crispy and coated in a sweet, sticky sauce that wasn’t too heavy. The beef spicy noodles had a really nice kick to them and came with plenty of tender beef, making the dish both filling and full of flavour. The chicken fried rice was simple but tasty, well seasoned and cooked just right, and it paired nicely with the other dishes. They also offer free hot tea, which is a lovely touch and something you don’t always get anymore. The service was friendly, quick and attentive, making the whole experience very comfortable. Overall, Loon Fong is a solid choice in Chinatown with good food, generous portions and great service.
Look at the photo. $29 for this portion of honey chicken. Are you kidding me? We had to ask if this was a mistake. This is apparelling. Not to mention some of these pieces ended up just being batter…no chicken. Like the place is nice and the service is good, but the portion sizes are tiny. EDIT: We spoke to the lady at the front desk about the dish and showed her the photo. She apologised and provided a refund for the dish.
