This is pure Hong Kong comfort food at its finest. The beef brisket is incredibly tender with perfect 'al dente' noodles, and the curry fish balls are a must-order—bouncy, flavorful, and authentic. Everything from the rich curry sauce to the savory side broth is spot on. If you want a real taste of HK, come here. Highly recommended
We picked up the Chinese New Year Collection from The S Lab yesterday, and it’s spectacular!!! We got the crispy taro shreds, turnip cake, osmanthus rice cake, and taro cake. It was my first time trying the crispy taro shreds, and they were sooo good!! Very crunchy and visually stunning! I can’t wait to try the rest of the festive cakes and the Poon Choi on the first day of the New Year. 新年快樂! 🧧 I used to dine here weekly with my Hong Kong friends because we always crave their authentic HK-style food. It truly feels like home! 🥹 Sadly, dine-in is currently unavailable as they focus on New Year orders, but the quality of these festive treats makes it worth the trip. Definitely a must-visit in Ashfield!
Ordered the CNY poon choi, sticky rice and cakes and they were so delicious, with authentic and traditional Cantonese taste. Very generous on the portion and ingredients with the price. Would love to try the other Cantonese dishes The S Lab has offered next time.
My 1st time & pick up myself. Parking is crazy. Recommend to come here by public transportation or have your takeaway delivered. Food taste good but salty. As shown as photo, all the good stuffs were on top, underneath were all vegetables & cheap stuffs eg tofu, fishballs etc. Portion is less than my expectations. Whether it’s value for money of A$200, that would be individual subjective opinion. Will try to dine in next time for their other dishes. Good Hong Kong food is hard to come by around Sydney area, let alone Chinese.
We came here to eat with family as this place came highly recommended. This is a Hong Kong themed food establishment serving up soups, noodles, and various snacks. Of note chef Marcus who is the owner of this restaurant also provides off menu items upon request. This review will reflect items that are both on and off menu. For the on menu items, we ordered the 1) curry trio of fish balls/ tripe/pork skin, 2) deep fried cuttlefish ball, 3)chicken wings, and 4)egg waffle with condensed milk and peanut butter. I have to say these items were very authentic and brought me right back to Hong Kong. Although they are snacks, the quality of ingredients and seasoning use is evident. My favorite item was the egg waffle as I have not being able to find a establishment outside of a Hong Kong that can replicate the taste until I came here. We ordered off menu for one of our dinners and Marcus provided quite the spread of a food items. We ordered lotus leaf sticky rice which was about a kilogram of food jam packed with protein including chicken, shiitake mushrooms, salted duck, eggs, shrimp, and abalone. The side order of baked chicken wings was also quite good utilizing traditional salt and pepper seasoning. The sleeper dish of the night was the steak cooked with garlic and butter. It was a hit for everyone! The tomato braised stew with steamed rice was also done well. Overall, I would definitely come back to this food establishment. I am now very curious as to what else Marcus makes off menu!
