Piccolo Bar Kings Cross is the sort of place that makes you feel cooler simply by walking in. Low lighting, walls crowded with decades of stories, a soundtrack that seems personally curated by someone with excellent taste, & the kind of atmosphere that suggests you should stay for one drink.. then accidentally stay for three. We dropped in for a pre-dinner aperitif & were promptly reminded of one of life’s great truths: rules are always more charming in an Italian bar. Here, the licence requires food before drinks - a policy that, frankly, should be adopted everywhere. If bureaucracy must exist, let it arrive with snacks. So, sea salt crisps were ordered. Crisp, salty, gloriously uncomplicated & exactly what they needed to be: the edible permission slip to proceed. Then came the drinks. A filthy vodka martini arrived looking sharp & behaving even better - cold, briny & unapologetically grown-up. Beside it, the Venetian Spritz was pure holiday energy in a glass: bittersweet, bright & sparkling with the kind of optimism that makes you briefly consider moving to Venice. And just when the room could not possibly become more cinematic, “And Then He Kissed Me” drifted through the speakers.. in French. Of course it did. Because Piccolo Bar doesn’t merely serve drinks; it stages moments. This is not the venue for rushing. It is the venue for leaning in, people-watching, clinking glasses & pretending your evening is the opening scene of a very stylish European film. Piccolo Bar understands that sometimes all you really need is excellent lighting, a martini with attitude, crisps on the table, & a soundtrack worthy of your entrance.

Love this bar, a really nice hole in the wall kind of spot. Have visited one two occasions and found the staff really accommodating getting us a seat. The cocktails, and in particular the martinis are their speciality! 🍸 they were great at explaining the different types of martini options for a novice like myself. The only slightly annoying thing is that you have to order food under their licence. Not ideal when really it’s a bar, so that’s a bit of a letdown. Aside from that, I recommend it but be prepared to wait for a seat or have to squeeze in beside people as it gets pretty crammed!

Cool little place with a huge history. Go if you have the time to wait because this place is popular and small so it takes quite a while to get a drink. The drinks were lovely when they came though.

Cute place, but very intimate. Not a lot of breathing room. You have to order food with your drink. We got crisps for $8 and I saw them put in Coles brand chips, but oh well. The was $30 for the Piccolo (in short glass). It had a unique taste.

A great bar with a welcoming local vibe! I've been coming here for a while, and it never disappoints. The drinks are exceptional, and the cheese toasty is absolutely unbeatable. Highly recommend stopping by. Marco and the team are lovely as well! 👌
