If you are a seafood lover, you MUST order the salt baked live mud crab. It was the crown jewel of our dining experience at Mimi’s - the meat was beautifully cooked and was sweet and oh so tender. When paired with the fennel mayo and roasted garlic butter, plus their soft fluffy brioche… YUMMMM! This was the dish my mum was most looking forward to and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We’re still gushing over it! For our appetisers, we ordered the Crudo of the Sea and three pieces of the blue fin tuna. I’m very sad to say, the sashimi was nothing to write home about! It was fresh and light, paired with the lemon olive oil drizzle, and accompanying betel leaf and lettuce, but I found myself reaching for the salt cellar across the table more than once. It did also come with a few trimmings such as crème fraiche, chives, wasabi and finger lime pulp to pair with the fish slices but I still found it rather bland. I do sing heavenly praise for the blue fin toro served on crumpet. The fatty tuna was melt in your mouth tender, and so rich but complimented really well by the fried piece of bread and confit tomato underneath. Still dreaming about it a day later! For our mains, unfortunately, we were told their pork tomahawk was all sold out, thanks to recent social media hype. Instead, we opted for their French ravioli and the spanakopita. At $70 per plate, the ravioli was good but very basic for its hefty price tag. Buyer beware 😳 Conversely, the spanakopita (similarly exorbitant in cost, for such a simple traditional pastry) was just amazing. The spinach filling was chock full of greens and creamy feta cheese, then topped with tangy sheep’s milk yogurt. Mind you, it’s rather small so you may need to order more than one to feel satisfied. Since it was a cold winter’s night, most of the tables were empty, save for a few other diners celebrating their birthday or anniversary, same as our party. We did round off our meal with their seasonal soufflé, this time it was their hazelnut praline, paired with a pear and amaretto sorbet. Bear in mind, it does require a 25 minute wait since it’s cooked fresh to order. However it was very much worth it 🩷 the staff also brought out a complementary cupcake for my birthday celebration. I did catch myself struggling to take out my card to pay for the final bill 😅😅 Nevertheless, strongly endorse Mimi’s for special occasions, be it a first date with a cashed-up sugar daddy or a milestone birthday festivity with close friends and family.

We visited for Sunday lunch and ordered the $278 set menu per person. As it was our first visit, finding the entrance was a little confusing at first, but it turned out to be in the same building as Coogee Pavilion, which gave us a small laugh once we realised. The set menu began with Our bread, sour cream butter and progressed through dishes such as Freshly shucked rock oysters with white Kampot pepper mignonette, Crudo, Duck leg pastilla, Hand-picked crab with preserved lemon mayonnaise, and continued with highlights like Slowly grilled lobster with orange wine sauce and Sun Gold tomato chitarra pasta and Lidman sirloin. Mediterranean flavours aren’t usually my first choice, but aside from a few ingredients I don’t eat, I found the experience thoroughly satisfying. The produce was fresh, the sauces well-balanced, and each dish had a clear sense of identity without feeling overworked. The service was particularly memorable. The staff took time to explain each dish in detail, and cocktails were prepared tableside, adding an engaging visual element to the meal. One of the most impressive moments was the burrata service, which was assembled from a cart, with peaches prepared and plated at the table — a thoughtful touch that turned the course into a small performance rather than just another dish. Even the smaller interactions stood out. On the way to the restroom, a staff member asked if it was our first visit and offered a brief introduction to the kitchen, a simple but genuine gesture that made the space feel welcoming. Overall, it was a well-rounded lunch experience where food, service, and presentation were in balance. A great choice for a special occasion or a first visit.

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but after dining here, I think there’s still room for improvement. One service detail stood out — the hostess didn’t come to greet us right away, as she was chatting with another staff member, though she quickly realized and came over soon after. The dishes were generally nice, but they felt a bit overpriced for what they were. My favorite was the baked spanner crab — savory, rich in flavor, and paired with soft, warm bread. It did get a little heavy towards the end, though. The caviar pie was also very rich — I could barely finish a quarter of it. The desserts were on the sweeter side and remained unfinished. The restaurant itself is lovely, with a comfortable atmosphere and beautiful window views. However, Sydney has many fine-dining restaurants that deliver a more balanced overall experience — with better service, more refined dishes, and more reasonable pricing. I think Mimi’s still has some room to grow in that regard.

We visited Mimi’s about a month ago to celebrate our engagement which has happened right before our booking, and I have to say we could not have chosen a better restaurant for such a special occasion. From the moment we arrived, the team was incredibly kind and welcoming. They knew we were celebrating and gave us the time to truly enjoy the moment, never rushing us to order. In fact, it was the opposite — they offered us champagne while we waited, which was a lovely touch. A special shout-out to Kate, the host/manager, and Martha who looked after our table. Their kindness and professionalism made the entire experience even more memorable. We chose the set menu, which was an excellent decision. The food was beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning to try more from the à la carte menu. Mimi’s is well worth the visit and is highly recommended for a special occasion. It truly delivers a fine-dining experience in both food and service.

We had such a beautiful pre-Valentine’s lunch at Mimi’s by Coogee Beach, and it was honestly the perfect way to spend the afternoon. The location is stunning, just steps from the ocean, and the whole space has a relaxed yet elegant coastal vibe. The atmosphere felt romantic but still comfortable, with soft lighting, stylish interiors, and a lovely beachside energy. We started with the bread and sour cream butter, which was simple but absolutely delicious. The bread was warm and fresh, and the butter was creamy and full of flavor. We also ordered caviar, which made the experience feel extra special and indulgent. For mains, we chose the rib eye steak and the Crudo of the Sea. The rib eye was cooked perfectly, tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The crudo was incredibly fresh, light, and beautifully presented perfect for a beachside setting. Everything tasted refined without being too complicated. You can really tell they focus on high-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The food, atmosphere, and location all came together to create such a memorable dining experience. It was the perfect pre-Valentine’s celebration, and we will definitely be back again.
