I recently tried Flying Fish and Chips and found the experience to be quite average. The shop has a straightforward, no-frills vibe, which suits its focus on delivering classic fish and chips. The food was decent, with the fish being freshly cooked and lightly battered. The chips were crispy on the outside but a bit soggy on the inside, which was a bit disappointing. The portion sizes were generous, but the meal could have used a bit more seasoning or flavor. Service was prompt and friendly, but there were some minor delays during peak hours. The cleanliness of the establishment was acceptable, though the dining area could use a little more upkeep. Overall, Flying Fish and Chips offers a solid, if unremarkable, fish and chips experience. It's a reliable option if you're in the mood for a classic meal, but there’s room for improvement in terms of food quality and consistency.
Beyond average. I ordered the pre-theatre special that comes with 2 pieces of fried calamari rings, 2 pieces of fish, chips and lettuce leaves. The fish and chips were over-fried to the point of being way to crispy and not in a good way. The ‘salad’ was a bunch of mixed leaves with no dressing and one stingy lemon wedge. Even for $21 this is not worth it. Try another option.
Recently visited this outlet located in The Star for a quick snack. The fish tasted fresh with crisp batter, fries were crisp and rightly salted, served with a slice of lemon and tartar sauce. We also had a couple of drinks. The outlet have a range of spirits, wine and beer, but very limited cocktail. We chose to sit on a small table with high chairs. Nothing extraordinary, but the food was warm tasted good and overall nice ambience.
The miso salmon poke bowl was one of the best poke bowls I’ve had. The sushi rice was top quality. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with sweet sushi vinegar. I’m usually not a big rice person but the rice was delicious just by itself. The toppings of cut up miso salmon, pickles, edamame and soft buttery avocado was excellent. Only downside is that they were a bit stingy with the salmon. The fish tacos were solid. Though the size of the fish in one of the tacos was noticeably bigger than the other. This special meal came with a glass bottle of coke zero. The mixed sashimi of kingfish, tuna and salmon was ok. Quality was decent but it had been sitting in room temperature for too long. The kingfish in particular was a bit stringy and noticeably room temperature. Appreciate it is winter but please keep your sashimi chilled. Service was friendly. Plenty of seating.
The food was awful, I ordered the cheese burger and the bread was extremely doughy, the meat was over cooked and the price was way too high. I would prefer Maccas or Hungry Jacks to this slop. My friends fish fillet had multiple bones in it which stabbed into his mouth and the portion sizes were small compared to price and taste, but frankly I wouldn’t want a bigger portion of what I just ate because of how terrible it tasted. The fries were fine but how can you mess up fries. The food is obviously frozen but I don’t know how you can stuff up THAT bad.
