We celebrated a birthday at Ennui and had a wonderful experience. Booking online was seamless, and I really liked that we could select our set menu at the time of booking, which made everything very easy. The dishes arrived at a great pace, allowing us to enjoy each course without feeling rushed. Every dish was beautifully presented and had its own unique flavours. The confit carrot, fresh cheese, yeast was especially memorable—something completely different and absolutely delicious. All bread dishes were different and were perfect to go with that particular dish. The restaurant itself is stunning, set within a beautiful heritage building that creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. There was also an excellent selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to suit everyone. The staff were attentive, friendly and provided excellent service throughout the evening. It was impressive to see the restaurant completely packed on a Tuesday night, which speaks for itself. Highly recommend for a special occasion or anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. To add, super easy location for public transport, located within minutes of walk from Central Station and light rail.

Lovely and different French dining experience. Their duck and sourdough with whipped duck fat is a must try. Steak and frites is lovely too if you just want that. Also recommend their kingfish collar, surprisingly pleasant and crispy.

The absolute best dining experience I've had in a long time. We wisely went for the grand banquet menu and found each dish a total delight. It was all so thoughtfully and well put together. Everything was enjoyed immensely but memorable standouts were the smoked Mussels - habanada flavour was outstanding. Truffle fried polenta with freshly shaved truffle - possibly my favourite bite of the evening. The duck was perfectly pink with beautifully burnished skin and the bone sauce, again with freshly shaved truffle - the only crime was we didn't have anything to mop that divine sauce up with! The gnocchi Parisienne was unlike anything I've had before - the crisp choux pastry, the velvet-smooth roast pumpkin and sage sauce - incredible. The creme brulee and chocolate terrine was the perfect end and the unique, fragrant South Bend mocktail the perfect drink to sip throughout. Courses were brought out very quickly - at times, felt slightly hurried - but overall, service was great and we enjoyed our knowledgeable servers and the dim, cosy ambience made for a lovely atmosphere.

We had a wonderful dinner at Ennui on Pitt Street before heading to the theatre, and it could not have been a better choice. If you’re seeing a show at the Capitol Theatre, it is literally just across the road, but the location is so central that it would work beautifully for almost any night out in the city. We had the Grand Banquet, which was a lovely way to experience the menu. The Sydney rock oysters, fresh from Merimbula, were a beautiful start — clean, briny and fresh, with just the right lift. The sourdough was excellent, and the early dishes had a really thoughtful balance of richness and freshness. The confit carrot was one of the unexpected highlights of the night. It was rich, comforting and deeply savoury, but still elegant. The fresh burrata-style cheese alongside it was creamy and cooling, creating a beautiful contrast against the sweetness and depth of the carrot. It was the sort of dish that sounds simple on paper but really stays with you. The polenta was another real stand out. It was beautifully creamy and paired so well with the tartare sauce, bringing a comforting richness to the dish without overwhelming it. The gnocchi à la Parisienne was also excellent — soft, rich and satisfying, especially with the burnt cream and mushrooms. The duck was the absolute stand out. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and made even more memorable with a generous amount of truffle shaved over it tableside. The orange gastrique, pink turnip and bone sauce brought everything together beautifully. A proper destination dish. The wines were lovely and worked very well with the meal. Dessert was a quenelle of tonka bean ice cream with butterscotch and almond crumb, which was a refined and satisfying finish after a rich and enjoyable banquet. The only small note is that the service felt a little rushed at times, with dishes arriving quite quickly. A little more breathing room between courses would have made the experience feel even more relaxed. The servings are not small, but they are also not huge, so a very big eater may leave wanting just a little more. Overall though, this was a great experience. Stylish, central, delicious and ideal before a show. We would happily return.

We were really excited to try this place for the first time, but the experience was ruined by the attitude from one female staff. Since English isn’t our first language, ordering took a bit longer, but she was clearly impatient and made us feel like we were a bother. We felt ignored for most of the night. No one checked on us or refilled our water, while the table next to us was treated warmly and looked after properly. When we asked for the dessert menu, she brought it over without saying a word and just handed it to us carelessly. Also, the smell inside the restaurant was quite unpleasant and mixed for some reason. Halfway through the meal, we suddenly smelled a strong disinfectant smell, which made the dining experience even worse. The only nice staff was the male server with glasses. He was polite and professional. Great food, but the service and overall atmosphere made us feel unwelcome. Really disappointing.
