Lovely Italian food, lovely service (the staff seem to genuinely care), great for both one-off fine dining or nice casual meals. (disclaimer: attended here in 2023, menu items have changed) Pate di Maiale- pork liver pate to start with. A bit salty (as it should be), but tasted pretty good with bread. Has a slight bitterness which is expected and I think adds depth to flavour. Organic artisan sourdough and homemade foccacia with extra virgin olive oil (they use really good olive oil by the way ). The ingredients speak for themselves. The focaccia was warm, soft and fluffy, perfect for dipping in olive oil. Tartare di tonno - yellowfin tuna tartare with taralli biscuit crumb - this added a nice crunchy texture in each bite. Tuna quality was great; very tender and fresh, no fishiness at all. Ricotta ontop added sweetness and creaminess. Lightly seasoned fish and a bit of citrus juice which is perfect for tuna. Spaghetti All’aragosta - the famous lobster pasta. Thoughtful and resourceful presentation with the lobster head. Homemade spaghetti chitarra was cooked perfectly. There were decent chunks of the juicy southern NSW rock lobster. Lobster bisque was super umami and well seasoned. The white wine sauce probably took out any fishiness. Cherry tomatoes are a nice touch and add sweetness. Strong herby flavours as well which also add aroma. Gnocchi del Contadino - soft bouncy homemade potato gnocchi in a kale pesto. Honestly this is a super innovative dish and that I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. The crispy kale chips and shaved almonds add texture but not an overwhelming kale taste, almonds had some nuttiness. The stracciatella (puglise style artisan) was creamy. The seasoning was actually okay; usually with gnocchis the seasoning is a bit light but I think the kale chips had a bit of salt which was good enough for me. Tiramisu - delicious as expected . Really aesthetic as well. Coffee soaked savoiardi with layers of mascarpone. Not overly sweet but definitely hits the spot. Each bite is soft but not mushy, and theres that strong bitter/ coffee taste to contrast the sweetness.
We went for an early lunch, and it was a great experience. We sat outside and it was a more quite part of Rushcutter/ Elizabeth bay. It’s near the train stop but we drove and there parking available. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the menu looks amazing, and the wines are really good! We had two starters and two pasta dishes…beautiful food! Somehow we only took pictures of the staters, the pastas where delicious. I felt I was back in Italy. We’re definitely coming back!
We were on vacation to Sydney and decided to give this local Italian restaurant a go. Super convenient location for us as it was steps from our hotel. Staff were pleasant and warm when we entered and promptly had us seated. The menu had a wide variety of options as we made our minds up. We sat up the back in our own little private area which further set the ambience. We didn’t have to wait long for our meals and everything was delicious. It was a little on the higher end of the pricing scale however the quality of the experience met the target. The Millefoglie al cioccolato was delicious!
What a fabulous place. Food was excellent. Tasty, sufficient portions and a good variety of foods. The atmosphere is also good. Especially downstairs in the sandstone walled cellar. Can seat groups of 6/8 or can probably hire the whole room for a bigger group.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I opted for the tasting menu, and while the appetizers were decent (the octopus was tender and flavorful, and the bread was good), the rest of the meal left much to be desired. The cod balls were strange—just salty with an odd texture. For the main course, I had the blue swimmer gnocchi, which was disappointing. It lacked any crab flavor, and the taste of eggs was overpowering. The gnocchi itself was incredibly soft, almost mushy—my 80-year-old grandmother might have liked it, but it just didn’t work for me. I also ordered the lamb, which was tender but lacked any distinct lamb flavor. The portions were ridiculously small—significantly smaller than the ones at the table next to us, even though they were ordering à la carte. It just didn’t seem fair that the tasting menu servings were so much smaller. I personally didn’t enjoy the ice cream with pickled cherries, but I’m not a fan of pickled fruit, so I won’t judge it. Overall, while the prices are reasonable, the food didn’t meet expectations, and the portion sizes were just too small for the price. Disappointing experience.
