🍽️ The Experience Sala Dining takes fine dining to another level. I visited during Vivid after my sister gifted me a birthday voucher and decided to take my uncle along for the experience. From the moment we arrived, it felt like much more than just dinner. 👨🍳 The Hospitality Chef Danny was the perfect host. He took the time to personally check on diners, explain the dishes and share the stories behind the ingredients and preparation. My uncle and Chef Danny quickly discovered a shared love of all things Italian and spent time chatting about food and Italy, which made the evening feel even more special. We were also lucky enough to grab a photo with him. 🥩 The Food The standout dish for me was the Australian Simply Crudo selection. Chef Danny explained the dry-ageing process and explained the restaurant's on-site dry-ageing fridge, something I had never heard of before for fish. The dish was exceptional and I could happily have eaten it multiple times over. His suggestion to try it both with and without lemon completely changed the experience and highlighted different flavours within the dish. We also shared the confit Aylesbury duck pasta and the fish of the day, both of which were beautifully prepared and showcased the quality of the produce. 🌉 The Setting Located at the end of the wharf, the restaurant has a beautiful setting and elegant décor. Combined with the atmosphere during Vivid, it made for a memorable evening. ⭐ Final Thoughts Outstanding food, exceptional hospitality and a genuine passion for the dining experience. Chef Danny and the team have created something truly special. Without question one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in Sydney and I will definitely be returning to explore more of the menu.
Dining at Sala is an experience To call it a dinner will simply not suffice. Excellent produce, thoughtful seasonal menu executed with care and absolutely bonkers delicious. Danny shows restraint as he allows the produce to be the hero of every single dish. He literally sources out the produce from the best farmers in Australia.. Even the shoestring fries level up. THE FRIES LEVEL UP ! Danny Russo (OG of the crew of godfathers of Aussie cooking) is at the helm welcomes us with open arms. He gently floats around the dining room to ensure the experience is as it should be. Danny makes this look effortless which tells me behind the scenes his staff are at the top of their game and respect the produce equally. Thank you Danny and thank you to your lovely and attentive staff for a memorable evening.. In the meantime, we’ll be impatiently waiting to return to Sala ❤️
The food was good, but it fell short of the kind of experience I expected in a restaurant of this range and at this price. Cocktails were very nice, strongly recommend the 1757 vermouth. The tuna tartare contained a radish that overpowered the fish. The trio of raw fish (scallops, salmon and kingfish) was really good. The grilled octopus had a nice flavour but was chewy. Spatchcock felt as if it had been prepared three days earlier (before the weekend break) and cooked on the day. Good, but not amazing. The swordfish was overcooked but with a nice flavour. What really stole the show was the kipper potatoes, a side dish that compensated for the not very interesting heirloom tomato salad. Again, our observation was that it was good, the Wednesday dinner perhaps showed the after-weekend effect. I’d be interested to know if dining on a Friday or Saturday made a difference.
Turned 50 with a lunch at Sala, where Chef Danny Russo curated a generous sharing menu that turned our table into a celebration of flavor and friendship. From the bright, seasonally driven starters to the elegant, communal final courses and a personal visit from Chef Russo, every element was crafted to feel intimate yet luxurious. The pacing allowed for easy conversation, and the pairings both wine and non-alcoholic options mexcelled in harmony with the dishes. If you’re planning a milestone meal with family and friends, Sala is a superb choice.
I absolutely loved my lunch at Sala Dining . It is a real hidden gem. The location is sensational with stunning views of the harbour and the Harbour Bridge. The relaxed atmosphere and fantastic service were great, but the real highlight was the food. Every dish was beautifully presented, and every mouthful was delicious.
