We visited Nom Japanese on our first day arriving in Sydney after a delayed flight, and it was the perfect start to our trip. We were incredibly lucky to secure a table without a booking, and from the moment we walked in, the owner welcomed us warmly. The food was absolutely exceptional. Everything is beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and clearly made with great care. The atmosphere was intimate and cozy, and the décor was thoughtfully curated and added so much charm to the overall dining experience, perfectly complementing the authentic izakaya feel. A truly memorable meal, and somewhere we would happily return to on our next visit. Thank you for making our first night in Sydney so memorable:)
Cozy little izakaya. The dishes were good, seats were limited so better be early or have a reservation. One of our dishes was served after 30mins, maybe because they only have a single cook and tiny kitchen, but lovely staff.
Small family-run izakaya in Darlinghurst serving simple dishes done exceptionally well. Couldn’t fault any of the dishes- sashimi was very fresh, tamago was fluffy and sweet, fried oysters crisp on the outside and melt in the middle, and the potato salad was perfectly seasoned. It’s authentic, great value, and well worth a visit, just be sure to book as space is limited.
Had a lovely meal at nom. My wife and I have both been to Japan over 14 times (and been to the majority of prefectures there) and we both felt this tasted like an authentic izakaya. We especially loved the agadashi tofu, kaki fry (oysters) and the onigiri. Cute place and the decor is like many restaurants in japan
Having never yet been to Japan I absolutely feel like this place is exactly what kind of restaurant I would find myself in. Tucked away in Darlinghurst I found out about this place from a Potts Point sushi chef talking about his favorite eel in Sydney. Outstanding food, lively atmosphere, and a wonderful selection of sake. We spent about two hours eating our way though the menu ordering in three or four rounds. Everything was excellent but the tempura eel, waygu sukiyaki, and ox tongue were standouts. Family run and totally awesome, I cannot wait to go back and try everything we didn't get to this time.
