A beautiful tiny gem with bowls of lush ramen. Sit at the counter and watch the chef work his magic while eating your ramen is great. A beautiful counter top and all those pots of yummieness. I had the Gaku Ramen on Monday which was so good I went back Tuesday and tried the spicy ramen. Rich and unctuous and that egg and noodles plus the fried root vegetable on the top. I will go back and work my way through the menu. And then I'll go back again. A small space with limited seats so get in quick or you'll miss out. Great to watch all the dishes being assembled while slurping through your ramen. Those aged noodles are beautiful.
Had dinner here last night on Saturday evening with a group of six to celebrate a friend's birthday, and unfortunately the experience was highly unsatisfactory. Upon arrival, we politely asked a staff member (the older female server) if our birthday cake could be stored in the fridge. She responded that there was no available space and advised that a $20 fee would apply, for a small 6-inch cake. This was disappointing, particularly given that the restaurant already imposes a 10% service charge on Saturdays, whereas such charges are typically limited to Sundays and public holidays only at most restaurants. During our meal, the service became increasingly uncomfortable. At 7:00pm while we were only halfway through our meal and well within our reserved two-hour seating (6:00-8:00pm), the same staff member asked whether we would like the cake served. Approximately 20 minutes later, while we were eating the cake, she repeatedly approached our table at very short intervals, creating a sense of pressure and discomfort. At 7:30pm we were presented with the bill and told to leave, well before the end of our allocated seating time. This level of service was unprofessional and discourteous, particularly given the widely recognised standards of hospitality associated with Japanese dining. While the food was generally of acceptable quality, it did not justify the pricing. We ordered the seafood and wagyu beef pot rice from the specials menu, however there was no steam upon opening, the pot was not hot, and the rice was only lukewarm. The grilled eel was satisfactory and was the only highlight of the meal.
I had an incredible dining experience at Robata Gaku. The highlight was definitely the ramen; its spicy kick was the best I've had in a long time. The sophisticated presentation and umami-rich flavors were unforgettable. The atmosphere was cool and truly authentic, making it a perfect place for a relaxed meal. I was also impressed by the Japanese charcoal grill style, adding a unique touch to the dishes. This is a must-visit restaurant in Sydney for anyone craving Japanese cuisine. I'm looking forward to returning soon!
Not super friendly staff on entry and they warmed up a bit after. They were hesitant to serve us maybe we cam right on time at 5:30pm. The food was very small quantity for the price and I do appreciate fine dining or refined taste for higher quality but just felt it wasn’t there. The beef tongue stew was very small and the spicy lamb glaze was delicious but not filling. Chicken karage was ok
The experience at Robata Gaku was fantastic! The food was incredibly delicious and creative, with the Gaku Famous Karaage and Foie Gras Mochi as standout dishes. This Japanese restaurant in Sydney offers a sophisticated and umami-rich dining experience. The atmosphere is both welcoming and chic, making it a great place to enjoy with friends or family. The Japanese charcoal grill style impressed me the most with its unique flavors. I would definitely come back to this gem of a restaurant for another delightful meal!
