Gou Sushi delivers an omakase that balances precision with playfulness, offering a sequence of dishes that feel both technically assured and quietly inventive. The chefs lean into creativity without losing respect for classic form, resulting in bites that surprise without showboating. Cant forget to mention their price is so affordable compared to other Omakase places in Sydney. The hospitality is where Gou Sushi truly distinguishes itself. Service is warm, unforced, and attentive, creating an atmosphere that supports the food rather than competing with it. The Chefs are brothers bring you such warm service and good techniques for both sushi and hot dishes. The friendliness of the team adds a human softness to an otherwise refined experience. A confident, thoughtful omakase — elevated by chefs that understands how to make guests feel genuinely cared for. Please come over and support the family business who brings you great food and care.
Our family absolutely loves Gou Sushi. We live nearby close to the Sydney Fish Market, and whenever we are craving sushi, this is always our go-to spot. What keeps us coming back is the perfect combination of quality, atmosphere, and genuinely warm service. The sushi here is consistently excellent — every piece is freshly prepared with great technique, attention to detail, and beautiful balance of flavours. Even when the restaurant is busy, the quality never drops, which really says a lot about the kitchen. We celebrated my birthday here with the omakase experience, and it was a memorable evening. One thing we truly appreciated was how welcoming the team was in accommodating our child so we could enjoy the experience together as a family — something that isn’t always easy to find with omakase dining. Over time we’ve worked our way through most of the menu, and honestly there hasn’t been a single dish that disappointed us. From the sushi to the karaage (fried chicken), chips, udon, and the rice dons — everything is thoughtfully prepared and consistently delicious. Gou Sushi has become one of our regular neighbourhood favourites. If you’re looking for high-quality Japanese food, great service, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe, this place is absolutely worth a visit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am a returning customer since Surry Hill Days, Gou Sushi offers an omakase that blends technical finesse with a quiet, confident creativity. Each course feels intentional, expressive, and rooted in a deep respect for craft. The hospitality is equally noteworthy — warm, attentive, and refreshingly unpretentious. What gives Gou its soul, though, is the duo behind the counter: two brothers (Chef Rio and Kelvin) whose synergy shows in both the food and the atmosphere. Their shared passion shapes the experience, making the meal feel personal in a way larger venues rarely achieve. A thoughtful, skillful omakase — and a local business well where you can order A La Carte and dinner which you can order. It caters to both audiences at a very affordable price. Highly recommended everyone to come support this family business!
The omakase sushi plate chef Rio presented was almost like a plate of art and tasted as beautiful as the plate looked! We had the special plate, the serving was generous, the produce is fresh, presentation is pretty and the service felt personable, we got to know chef Rio quite well as he did us. If you are in the mood for good sushi, omakase experience, quality shabu shabu on a cold winter night, I would not hesitate for a moment recommending Gou Sushi to anyone!
Such a hidden gem! This was my first time trying omakase and I was so impressed. Chef Rio is a legend, he is super welcoming and has a really interesting background, having trained under an authentic Japanese chef. The food is a cool fusion of Western and traditional styles. The Chu-Toro is absolutely mind blowing and the dessert was fantastic as well. Amazing service, affordable price, cozy atmosphere, and just a great overall vibe. Don't overlook this place, it's a must-try.
