I tried the kaisendon at Burwood recently and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. The seafood was fresh — the salmon, scallops, and tuna all had great texture and natural sweetness. The rice was seasoned just right, and the wasabi had a nice kick. For the price, I was expecting a bit more fish. It’s satisfying but left me wanting an extra piece or two. Still, the quality is solid, and I’d order again if I’m craving a light, fresh donburi. Slow service up to 30 minutes wait on busy nights. Restaurant is small and cramped, only suitable for 1-4 people.

One of the best seafood Don experiences I’ve had in Sydney. Highly recommended to visit. It’s a small restaurant do you recommend you go early. It’s a bit of a wind tunnel where the location is. Bring a jacket if you end up eating outdoors.

If you like sashimi don you will love this place. They specialise in dons (rice bowls), and basically have all sorts of sashimi assortments including tuna, salmon, kingfish, bluefin tuna, uni, otoro, scampi, prawn and scallop. I had the original Kaisendon which is just salmon and tuna topped with some fish eggs. I found the fish quality to be quite tender, did have a slight fishy scent which I assume is more from the fish egg. The chirashizushi bowl had avocado, tamagoyaki and uni which was great and all but the uni tasted quite fishy. The tamagoyaki is quite sweet and squishy which we loved. For $3 you can add an onsen egg which, with soy sauce and wasabi, makes the bowl even better. The service was good but the food took a while to come out. The table arrangement is rather cramped both indoor and outdoors.

The best uni I’ve had, this is not an inv, these bowls with the uni were $68 each and super worth. Would definitely come back! Restaurant is very small tho. So it can get quite busy.

I wouldn’t say it quite justifies the price tag ($38) but the food itself was definitely solid. The seafood was fresh, the seasoning well balanced, and the salmon and scallops had a lovely char that brought out rich, smoky, slightly fatty flavours. The fish roe added just the right hit of briny, oceanic salinity, with little bursts that popped nicely on the palate. These kaisendon bowls come pretty close to what you’d get in Japan. Should visit
