theatrics aplenty: fire, catching raw eggs, towers of fried rice, and having omelette rapidly thrown at you. expect to leave with food in your hair or down your clothes. the kids menu is good value and includes ice cream, whilst we opt for a standard menu which includes beef, chicken, fish and prawns. everyone gets salad, stir fried veggies and fried rice. average grade produce but satisfying enough for kids. adults and kids given same portion sizes. adults can get the prawn legs further cooked into crunchy edible morsels. was yearning for a little more veggies, left with room and time for dessert elsewhere (done within an hour). around us on the weeknight are birthday celebrations and workplace team dinners. the chefs drum up the energy to entice you to participate, it gets noisy! floor can be slippery - be careful. service was basic, didn’t clean up broken eggs on the floor until after we left. the fitout felt dull and in want of an update.
I echo the previous reviewers experience (if you sort by newest). Extremely rushed, not the normal experience or interaction you would expect from a normal Teppanyaki restaurant. We were not a late booking or anything like that. Our chef literally called dishing up cooked egg for us to catch a machine gun, then proceeded to intentionally hit you in the face repeatedly with the egg, the other servers were doing this too, so it is a part of it for them. Lastly, and the worst part was that my daughter ended up with a small oil burn on her hand that we noticed when we got home and 4 or the 5 of us ended up with food poisoning and upset stomachs for 2 days. Will never return and suggest you do not either, these guys are done.
Fun for the whole family! Our dining group were all adults and we didn’t feel the theatrics were over the top like some of the stuff you see from Benihana.
Great fun, real family atmosphere! We had a huge group event and took up 3 tables. The kids were all together on one table - ranging from 6 to 9 and had an amazing time. The staff were great and managed the kids without any issues. It is a loud experience so don't expect something intimate.
Osaka Tappanyaki is a hidden gem in the heart of St Leonards! This tiny restaurant has an incredible vibe that makes every visit a fun experience. The cook was not only charming but also highly entertaining, truly bringing the meal to life with his skills and personality. The food was absolutely amazing—each dish was delicious and beautifully prepared. After some less-than-stellar experiences at fancier teppanyaki spots, I was thrilled to find such a warm and friendly atmosphere here. I can't recommend Osaka Tappanyaki enough for anyone looking for great food and an enjoyable night out!
