I’ve wanted to eat at Sokyo for the longest time, so this felt like a bit of a bucket list moment. We had a tight timeframe, just an hour before a theatre show, and it was a special night out with my mum who was visiting Sydney for the first time in a decade. I had definitely talked Sokyo up. The lighting was perfect at the start of the meal, bright enough to easily read the menu, before dimming later for more ambience. For my meal, I ordered the Maguro Tataki, Queensland Tiger Prawn tempura and Sushi Moriwase. I had been tossing up between that and the toothfish and in hindsight, I probably should have gone with the toothfish. Everything I had was absolutely delicious though. Mum, who is a smaller eater, chose the Wagyu Beef Tartare and Kingfish Miso Ceviche. She felt both dishes were a little heavy on the sauces, but still really enjoyable. We shared the Taste of Tokyo dessert, which was exceptional and a real highlight. Service was friendly, though a little on the slow side given our time constraints. The ambience overall was lovely and made it feel like a special night out. I’d love to come back and properly experience the tasting menu when we have more time.

As we missed Asian food during our trip to Sydney, we were looking for a Japanese restaurant. We were very happy with our choice of Sokyo, a highly-rated, premier, contemporary Japanese restaurant located within The Star Sydney in Pyrmont. It features a refined selection of sashimi, tempura, and meats cooked over a robata grill. Their dishes are vivid demonstrations of how tactically the chefs blend traditional Japanese techniques with premium Australian produce. Be expected to be surprised by its wow factor and its impeccable fusion of traditional and modern styles. Our overall dining experience was overwhelmingly positive!

Yummmmm just had the best dinner at Sokyo. We chose the early dinner special so we could indulge in drinks and it didn't disappoint. Even added on the ngiri and oysters 🤤 Every dish was delicious. Still can't believe the brussel sprouts were so good. The tempura was perfectly crispy and light. The oysters were incredible. The housemade yuzushu cocktail is *chefs kiss* And on top of that our server Emmy was a delight. Very attentive, helpful and professional but also very approachable. We never felt rushed which can happen in some establishments. Can't wait to come back here. Thanks Emmy and thanks Sokyo 🙂

The service was efficient and professional. A wonderful staff member with blonde hair (apologies, I didn’t catch her name) made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was delicious—we particularly loved the wagyu tartare, and the standout dishes were the sweet corn and the tuna crispy rice.

Just had a great dinner here and whilst Sokyo's food and beverages are great as always, we had an excellent service by a gentleman named Devon. He is a true example how working in restaurant industry should be. Truly outstanding! Thank you Sokyo & Devon!
