High ceiling open feel with warm wood tone and red tone based Japanese mural. Great quick service and affordable. The rice dish was fresh and good. The karage curry udon dish... lightly battered chicken was good. Not sure about the lightly flavored soupy curry udon though. Curry udon I have had in other places were normally thicker and more flavorful.

As of this moment, there are 1,709 Google Reviews with an overall rating of 4.6. That’s pretty impressive until you realise there’s a sign on the counter offering a 5% discount off the bill if you give them a Google Review. The truth is I don’t think any self-respecting Japanese person would come to this place. It’s more like another culture’s approximation of Japanese food. That in itself is not a hanging offence, but the service is. I waited 30 minutes for my wagyu don, which was egregiously overcooked. My curry tasted like it came out of a packet purchased from the Asian grocer next door. My katsu chicken wasn’t even fully cooked through (pictured - visible pinkness). There were cockroaches running around under my seat. There were no apologies; only excuses, and a complete lack of pride and enthusiasm in their work. I’d be mortified if I was the owner. There are infinitely better places to dine within 10 seconds walk. This was a mistake.

Visited Umaya at Macquarie Centre and was pleasantly surprised by their special deal. We ordered the Beef Udon and Gyudon, and both were delicious. The beef was tender, the broth was comforting without being too salty, and the rice bowl was flavorful. The portions were generous for the price, making it great value for money. The meal also came with free lemon teas and the total was only $15.80 for the special deal. It’s honestly one of the best affordable Japanese meals I’ve had in Sydney. If you’re looking for a tasty, filling, and budget-friendly meal, I’d definitely recommend giving Umaya a try. I’ll be back again! The service was also excellent. Our food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly!

We went here for lunch. My friend and I each ordered a don (rice bowl). Our meals were served in less than five minutes after ordering, but we found that the rice was not only cold but also very oily. The beef on top was also cold. won’t be going again🤮

The food was ok, but the experience was hella frustrating. We were seated at 6:10pm and placed our order around 5 minutes later, only to be told at 6:35pm that there was an issue with the system and our order hadn’t even been processed. And when we ordered the second time, they said the food we wanted was sold out. In the end, we didn’t receive any food until nearly AN HOUR after arriving.
