We had dinner at YAYOI Hurstville and it was a really satisfying experience overall. The restaurant had a clean, modern Japanese dining atmosphere and the service was efficient even during a busy dinner period. We ordered a mix of dishes including gyoza, a chicken Nanban set, and a unagi mix toji rice bowl set and for drinks it was Japanese sake, lychee mojito and The premium Malt’s.The portions were generous and everything arrived neatly presented. The chicken was crispy on the outside while still tender inside, and the hotpot sauce paired well with the rice and miso soup. The Unagi mix Toji was fresh and flavourful, especially with the creamy topping and fresh greens that balanced the dish nicely. The gyoza were also golden and crispy with a juicy filling. What stood out was how complete each set meal felt — rice, miso soup, sides, and mains all came together well and made the meal feel balanced and comforting. Drinks were refreshing too, especially alongside the richer fried dishes. Overall, YAYOI Hurstville is a great spot for casual Japanese dining with reliable quality, good portion sizes, and a comfortable atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting if you’re craving Japanese set meals in the area.
I already made formal complaints to headquarter The Chicken Nanban we ordered was undercooked. When we raised this concern with a staff member, we were told that it was “because of the lighting,” which made the explanation difficult to accept. Even after we mentioned it several times, the staff member continued to insist that it was a lighting issue rather than acknowledging the problem. Eventually, my husband asked if the dish could simply be remade, and we received another one. However, that re made dish was not fully cooked as well and I haven't eaten remade dishes. In addition, we also ordered Chicken Karaage as a side dish. One of the two pieces was cooked properly, but the other piece was clearly undercooked and the fried part was undercooked that i could squish it with my hand and it was all smeared with flour. When we raised the issue with the chicken karaage for the second time, there was no response at all. A few minutes later, when we said we would report it to the head office, they said they would report it to the manager. We also raised this issue, but we were disappointed with the staff member’s response and attitude. As long-time customers who have supported the Hurstville store for years, this experience was very disappointing. We understand that mistakes can happen, but we were particularly concerned about the repeated food quality issue and the way the situation was handled. We hope that this matter can be reviewed so that food quality and customer service can be improved
Comfort food hits different when it’s this thick and juicy. Stopped by @yayoi.aust for their iconic Teishoku, and the Pork Loin Katsu-toji Don absolutely delivered. Thick cuts of tender pork katsu simmered in a savory soy-sauce broth with fluffy eggs, served over perfectly soaked rice. It’s the ultimate bowl of warmth for days like today. Drop a ❤️ if you’re craving a hot bowl of Katsudon right now! #YayoiSydney #TeishokuYayoi #Katsudon #SydneyEats #SydneyFoodie
We went to this Japanese restaurant in Hurstville for a weekday dinner and had such a lovely experience. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and best of all, there was no queue. We tried the pork loin katsu, which was cooked beautifully and instantly became a comfort food favourite for the kids. My husband had the salmon teriyaki — perfectly cooked, not dry at all, and the namban sauce gave it such a tasty, flavourful twist. My little one enjoyed one of the kids’ sets that came with apple juice, ramen, edamame, and prawn tempura, which was a hit. The prices were a little on the higher side for a weekday dinner, but the food was decent and the overall dining experience was definitely enjoyable. We’ll happily come back again.
Good experience, highly recommend! Food is great and the stuffs are nice and attentive. Only the pork is a bit fatty.
