We tried the Biwon lunch set (탕수 세트 – sweet & sour pork set) – $56. The set includes: • Sweet and sour pork (탕수육) • Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles, 짜장면) • Spicy seafood noodle (짬뽕) The sweet and sour pork was crispy with a nice sauce. The noodles were tasty and full of flavour. The serving size is generous and good for sharing. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. The lunch set is available Monday to Friday, 11:00–15:00, and is cash only.
Very average overall. I honestly don’t understand why so many people say it’s good. There was no fragrance or depth of flavour at all. I know the sweet-and-sour pork is developed from the Northeastern Chinese dish guo bao rou, but this version was really disappointing. The sourness was harsh and overwhelming, and the pork wasn’t crispy at all, it felt soggy and doughy instead. The soup noodles were also completely bland, with no noticeable flavour. Service was just okay, and overall it didn’t feel like good value for money.
We honestly don’t understand why this restaurant has such a high rating… at least 5 of us ate there and we mostly found it rather meh. Meats are mostly deep fried and the taste is not bad but not great. Prices of each dish is rather expensive. And we found the noodles rather average, nothing exceptional. Seafood noodle soup taste a little instant. They also serve only two Korean side dishes which is one of the fewest we’ve had, although they were kind enough to give us additional kimchi which apparently is not usually served as a side ! I would think that such a high rating restaurant would be completely packed with a queue, but nope, restaurant was not crowded at all, compared to the many other Korean restaurants along the same stretch that has a queue but much fewer reviews and ratings. I kinda wonder if the restaurant had bought reviews 😅😅
I had dinner at Biwon and it was a truly satisfying experience. The food was fresh and full of flavor. The Gan-jjajang and Tang-su-yuk were especially delicious. The staff were also friendly and nice :) I'll definitely visit again. 😉
Felt right to stop by being a cold night! The dishes were all generous portion and savoury taste. Worth a try when in the area. P.S write a review to get a free soft drink :)
