We ordered the Obongzip Special so we can try all their signature dishes. The seaweed soup was an excellent start to our meal and we went for another round. The octopus arrived first and looked fiery in a bright red sweet spicy sauce, laying on top of a bed of cabbage. But before I could take a photo, the staff proceeded to help us cut the legs into bite-sized pieces. It was a lovely dish though, with the octopus' slightly chewy but snappy texture and the cabbage providing many creases to trap the delicious sauce. The bossam arrived shortly, served alongside freshly made cabbage kimchi rolls. I liked the dish but I wished there would be more lettuce. I also preferred the version of bossam with oysters. And finally, the buckwheat noodles that was served cold, playing the role of a salad. I was neutral about this dish but appreciated the fresh ingredients. Overall, the food was delicious across the board. Service was also excellent with the staff explaining the menu, working with us to make the order and being attentive throughout the meal, offering top-ups on our soup and side dishes.
Everything we got was so good!! The octopus had a really pleasant smoky flavor and was the right amount of spice (we went for mild). The bossam was flavorful and tender. The spicy cold buckwheat noodles were really fresh and refreshing. The steamed egg was one of the softest I’ve tasted and it was just like an eggy cloud. The side dishes were also good but nothing to shout about. All in all, great food and the food came out lightning fast which is always a bonus. It can get quite loud inside, especially when it gets busy but still ok. Will definitely visit again!
Octopus was so so so good!!!! I am a spicy food enjoyer but I’m pretty weak at spicy food, mild flavor was perfect for me! Still tasted spicy but not painful 😍 squid is very juicy and the sauce is so great. Waiters were super friendly and helpful too, great service! She cut our octopus for us after seeing us struggling 😂 The pork is also bussing 😭 I love meat. Seaweed soup is so good too!! very homey very sea umami. The raspberry wine was yummy too, tasted like my favourite cough medicine as a kid 😋
27/6/26 - 3.5 stars We actually came here not because we saw it on socials, but because it looked quite good from outside. It's really popular right now so you can expect a decent wait (30-60mins). **Also, they have a promotion for a free drink if you leave a review so take that as you will*** Inside is pretty cosy and can get rowdy. Service can be a little slow but otherwise alright. Overall, the food is pretty tasty, but, wouldn't say the flavours are anything special. A lot of gochujang. Banchan: S+, 8.5/10. Free refills. Multiple options. Tasted quite fresh. Spicy grilled octopus Flavour: S, 8/10. Slightly charred but basically just gochujang. Texture: S+, 8.5/10. A bit chewy but tender Value: B-, 5.5/10. We got the set which seems to have less than ala carte. Not sure if $108 is worth. Also it's 30% cabbage. Spicy grilled pork: B, 6/10. Essentially the same flavours as octopus but worse value at $51. Bossam Flavour: SS+, 9.5/10. Probably the best bossam I've had so far and the only reason I'd consider coming again. Texture: SS+, 9.5/10. Had a slight crust yet still tender. Really good. Value: A, 7/10. Pretty small serve in the set. $52 for ala carte is expensive but more reasonable than the octopus. Seafood pancake Flavour: A, 7/10. Kinda missing the seafood part Texture: S+, 8.5/10. Pretty crispy yet not oily Value: N/A. Got it as part of the hotpot combo (PSA: it's $5 as part of the combo but $27 as part of the obongzip special set) Hotpot: B, 6/10. Do not recommend. So mid.
Had a great experience here! The food was really good and the staff were very friendly. It was our first time visiting and they kindly walked us through the menu and shared their recommendations, which we really appreciated. Everything we tried was delicious. We’ll definitely be back! 😊
