Had such a great experience at Hokkien Kia Kitchen. It’s one of those small, unassuming spots that quietly serves genuinely delicious food without trying too hard. We ordered the Fish Head Noodles (without the fish head) and the broth was incredible. Really balanced, comforting and not overpoweringly fishy like I expected. You can tell a lot of care goes into it. The standout for me was definitely the Roasted Hainanese Chicken Rice. I’m usually not a fan of poached chicken, so I was a bit hesitant, but the roasted version completely changed my mind. The chicken had crispy skin, was cooked perfectly and the rice itself was packed with flavour. We also tried the Duck Egg Fried Kuey Teow which had that smoky wok flavour you hope for in a good fried noodle dish. Super satisfying and full of flavour. Really enjoyed trying Malaysian dishes that felt a little different from what I’d normally order. Will definitely be back to explore more of the menu.

This is the best char kway teow I've ever had. The noodles are coated in sambal. It's hot spicy and to die for. Service is a bit slow but that's ok if the foot comes out this good.

Surprised to find good tasty Malaysian hawker food here. Tried the duck Char kueh teow which is one of the best, the Hokkien noodles just like the ones I had in KL and the Loh Mee, thick noodles with vinegar gravy, something you can’t get in many places. Like it and will be back to try other items.

I used to love Hokkien Kia Kitchen and it was my go-to place for char kuay teow. I would regularly order four takeaway boxes of the spicy version. On one occasion, despite confirming multiple times that the order was meant to be spicy, we were only given two sambal containers instead of four. To make matters worse, none of the boxes were actually spicy. It was especially embarrassing because I had given two of the boxes to my besties and assured them the food would be spicy enough. We were all very disappointed. Unfortunately, since the change of ownership, the overall experience has gone downhill significantly. On several occasions, I was charged more than the listed menu price. When I questioned it, instead of apologising, the owner only returned $1 when I was overcharged by $2 and simply said that the prices had increased. That showed a real lack of honesty and professionalism. My final visit was the worst. I saw cockroaches crawling out from the kitchen area. When I notified the owner (or who appeared to be the owner), instead of addressing the issue himself or thanking me for pointing it out, he instructed a female staff member to deal with it. That response completely destroyed my confidence in the restaurant’s hygiene standards. I have never returned since and would not recommend this place due to the poor hygiene, declining service, and lack of integrity.

4.5/5 Before coming here, I heard the char kway teow was really delicious, so I ordered the duck egg char kway teow. It was freshly stir-fried, which is a rare find in Sydney nowadays, and it had great wok hei (the smoky aroma of wok cooking). We also tried the mixed pork offal noodle soup, which was excellent. The offal was handled very cleanly, with no unpleasant odor, and the pork liver was fragrant and tender. The broth was very tasty—light, refreshing, and flavorful. The portion of noodles was quite generous too. Next time, I’ll try the soup noodles. The food here is great, the staff are super nice, and while the environment is average, it’s still quite comfortable.
