Had heard a lot about the pastries from Blackstar. It was definitely worth the hype. They have done some stunning experimentation with the flavours and presentation. Was one of the best pastries I’ve had. Coffee was pretty great too ona cold rainy morning. Must visit if you are in the area.
We got the Chocolate Oasis and the Grape Cake, which tasted beautiful. I liked the Chocolate cake the most, the layers of chocolate and kataifi complimented each other very well. The Grape cake was refreshing and not too sweet, we enjoyed the jasmine notes in it. The team were very accommodating, they provided excellent service and care! Overall, my experience here in Black Star Pastry did not disappoint. Will definitely come back!
Black Star Pastry certainly knows how to make desserts that look incredible. Everything in the display cabinet is beautifully presented and very tempting. That said, I personally found the desserts to be a little overpriced for what they were, and the flavours didn't quite live up to the presentation. I also tried the famous watermelon cake. I can see why it's so popular, but in my opinion it's a bit overrated and probably not for everyone's taste. If you're curious, it's still worth trying at least once to see what all the hype is about, but it wasn't a standout for me. Overall, it's a lovely place to visit for the visual appeal, even though the desserts didn't quite meet my expectations.
Returned to Black Star after discovering them 12 months ago. Went there with family members on a week day after 12:30 for lunch. The range of cakes were limited compared to weekends. The Lamb pie was so so - barely warm, not much flavour. The beef rangdang pie & quiche Lorraine were both slightly better. But the savoury items are just the supporting cast for desserts which are the stars. The egg tart thing was so so, not much character. However, the lychee cake was very good. The fruit and other layers balanced well. The sesame cake had an interesting flavor and also good. Their flat white and latte were average. Overall, the better experience was last time.
Posting a review after many visits over the years. Black Star cakes have been consistent in taste and quality. The watermelon cake is still as good as the first one I had 7 years ago. Light and refreshing.
