The Riverview is long established Balmain institution, one a handful remaining of the many old original Balmain pubs. They do good pub food and its a popular local. However we decided to try their new degustation menu in the restaurant. $75 for four courses with matched wines- why not? The restaurant was nowhere near full the night we dined but interest and numbers are flowing. The tuna ceviche was fresh and light and matched well with the Weather craft Pinot Gris. I preferred it without the toasted brioche as I thought the flavours shone through more. The Fremantle octopus was tender with a nice chili oil kick and the Tyrell’s Chardonnay was a good foil to the flavour. I chose the duck over the barramundi alternative. This was tender, slightly pink and accompanied by broccolini and mash. The five spice flavouring was extremely subdued. The Helen’s Hill Syrah complemented the subtlety of the duck flavours. The dessert of vanilla panna cotta was light and a perfect finish to the meal. The DArenberg noble botrytis was light sweet accompaniment. This is incredible good value for money and highly recommended. The restaurant / dining room is light on ambience with the feel of an 80s function room but the food and wine combination excuses the surroundings.

Wow. Easily one of the best, if not THE best Sunday Roasts we’ve found in Sydney. You can instantly tell the produce is top quality, with no expense spared in creating a truly perfect roast. The presentation was immaculate, and the restaurant setting felt incredibly refined, almost like a fine‑dining experience - This was particular down to the Guy (didn’t catch his name) and Lisa who both served us and went above and beyond. Made us feel genuinely welcome and looked after from start to finish. We’re already excited to come back next week.

Food is very consistent. Steak was good quality, pizzas are so tasty too. They really look after us at this pub. Special mention to Cameron and Lisa who always go over and beyond.

What a fabulous pub this is! We have made many visits to The Riverview Hotel on Birchgrove Road and have always enjoyed the experience. Our recent visit was no exception. We received a friendly welcome and I can recommend the fish & chips as being exceptional. Well I am originally from England! The pizza, pear salad and schnitzel did not disappoint either. The range of craft beers included one of my favourites: Newtowner! The wine selection is great too. I recommend The Riverview without exception. Just a great pub!

After being locals to The Riverview for years, we decided to host our marriage ceremony & reception at the pub. We wanted to throw a big party, exclusively, with around 120 guests. From the very start of organising the night, the entire Riverview team were excellent. They had every detail covered, they put us at ease & took any concern we had, graciously. The night was an absolute blast. We had so many guests reach out to us personally to say how much fun they had, that the food was excellent & the staff were fantastic. We both had the best night too. We are extremely thankful to The Riv & so happy they facilitated a night that was perfect to celebrate us. Professional, personable & easy.
