A Pleasant Surprise in The Rocks A spontaneous Sunday morning walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through The Rocks Markets led me to 4 Doors Down. I hadn't had breakfast, there were a few people enjoying the outdoor tables, and I thought, why not? I'd never been here before. Walking in, my first impression wasn't particularly encouraging. The interior felt old and a little worn, and I immediately assumed it was one of those venues aimed primarily at tourists where the food is an afterthought. Thankfully, first impressions aren't always right. I was greeted warmly by the staff and asked whether I'd prefer to sit downstairs, outside or upstairs. I opted for the quieter first floor, away from the bustle of the entrance. The staircase certainly showed its age—old and wonderfully creaky—so I made sure to watch my step on the way up! Upstairs was much quieter. The balcony tables were full, but with the doors open there was plenty of natural light and a gentle breeze flowing through. The building itself is full of character, and while it's certainly showing its age, it was clean and felt perfectly in keeping with the history of The Rocks. The flat white arrived first. It was... average. Perfectly drinkable, but there are plenty of cafés nearby serving a better coffee. Then the Shakshuka Eggs arrived. What a surprise. The dish looked even better than the menu photo and, more importantly, tasted even better than it looked. The rich tomato base, perfectly cooked eggs and generous serving made for an excellent breakfast, while the side of crispy bacon was a thoughtful addition that rounded out the meal beautifully. For less than $30 including coffee, it represented excellent value for money in one of Sydney's busiest tourist precincts. I left pleasantly surprised, wandered back through The Rocks Markets, and realised my initial impression couldn't have been more wrong. This isn't just a place for tourists—it's a genuinely good spot for breakfast if you're exploring the area on a Sunday morning. I'd happily return.

We had breakfast here and the food was amazing. Can certainly recommend the chicken schnitzel :))) Sitting on the terrace was lovely watching the market and the world go by. Staff were friendly and helpful!

Great place to enjoy a Saturday morning brunch 😍😍 I devoured (🤣🤣) bacon eggs benedict and my 80 year old Dad had mushroom toast. Nice way to celebrate turning 80 and great for him to reminisce about the "good ole days". It was overcast, and we enjoyed breakfast on the terrace and the music was a flash from the past. Awesome food, service and location. I highly recommend.

The food was amazing. We came here to eat which didn't disappoint. The Chilli prawn linguine was really tasty to the point that my daughter nearly requested a straw to get all the sauce. My burger was tasty and went down well. On top of that a great pint of Guinness!!!! Thank you

Ordered Almond croissant, it was great. Staffs were great, ketchups and butters were offered too at a corner. Basically it’s a self-service place.
