We are on a quest to find the best culinary experience in all of Australia, … and on this particular evening, that odyssey led us into the concealed chambers of Flame, a venue so architecturally refined that its existence inside an RSL feels almost absurd. Hidden behind confusing corridors and understated signage, the restaurant eventually reveals itself through a mesmerising blue flame above cascading water and an atmosphere of darkened elegance. Internally, Flame is a triumph of ambience. Crimson brown lamps, charcoal inspired textures, ember toned carpeting, and an open kitchen collectively create the sensation of dining within a sophisticated furnace. Every detail appears deliberate, from the polished serving rails to the intricately sculpted cutlery. The service was polished and highly professional. Staff demonstrated precision, attentiveness, and admirable situational awareness. A particularly memorable moment involved a waitress courteously delaying the pouring of wine until conversation had concluded. A subtle yet deeply refined gesture. Staff likewise respected our party’s internal discussion without unnecessary interruption. That said, intervals between courses were undeniably lengthy, at times approaching thirty minutes, which may test less patient diners. Whilst attentiveness was appreciated, repeated interruptions mid meal occasionally bordered upon excessive. The cuisine oscillated between brilliance and disappointment. The monkfish skewer was extraordinary. Moist, delicate, and luxuriously soft, the fish dissolved with near buttery elegance whilst the chorizo amplified its sweetness magnificently. The venison achieved culinary excellence. Encased within flaky pastry and accompanied by a profound juniper berry jus, the meat reached a rare equilibrium between tenderness and richness. It was unquestionably the pinnacle of the evening. The pate displayed sophistication and refinement, whilst the creme brulee and smoked chocolate dessert possessed admirable texture, though the latter leaned more heavily toward coffee than smoked chocolate. The greatest revelation arrived through something deceptively humble … the crispy French fries. Fried to an astonishing level of crispness and accompanied by an addictive vinegar infused mayonnaise, they constituted one of the most pleasurable potato experiences imaginable. Regrettably, the steak failed to embody the restaurant’s very identity. Despite competent cooking, it lacked succulence, assertive flavor, and genuine flame kissed character. The peppercorn crust provided little authority, whilst the bearnaise sauce ultimately became the sole component rescuing the dish from mediocrity. For a venue named “Flame,” this represented a palpable disappointment. Flame possesses immense promise. Its ambience is magnificent, its service polished, and several dishes approach exceptional culinary heights. Yet inconsistency within certain marquee offerings prevents it from fully igniting into greatness. For now, Flame remains not entirely aflame, but elegantly smouldering.
Amazing food a fine dining experience with good delicious food at generous size portions. The Chicken Oscar was unbelievably tasty, can't wait to try it again. The Port Ribs fell off the bone so delicious. The cheesy garlic bread so delicious. Going again soon x
Was excited to find such a nice restaurant close to home after recently moving to the area. Lovely setting despite being inside then RSL and easy to access. Food was delicious and service was great. Steak was cooked exactly how we ordered it, yum. Can readily recommend Flame and we are already looking for an excuse to go back!
I have dined at a few RSLs over the years, but this venue has set a new benchmark. Stepping into this expansive multi-level complex, I was immediately impressed by the spacious, modern design and abundance of options under one roof. From the bustling bistro and casual dining areas where families gathered, to the more upscale restaurants hidden away in landscaped courtyards - it was clear this venue had something for every taste and budget. Our group of six decided on booking a table at Flame, one of the fine dining establishments located on the top level. When we arrived for our reservation, I will admit I felt slightly underdressed for such elegant surrounds. However, our waiter put us at ease immediately with his friendly and attentive service. We started with drinks while checking the menu. The menu at Flame did not disappoint, with an excellent selection of steaks, seafood and chef's specials on offer. I opted for a succulent rib eye on the bone, cooked perfectly to my liking. My dining companions also raved about their tenderloin and beef rib dishes. For dessert, a delicate affogato hit the spot to round out the night. While the (fine) dining experience far surpassed expectations, I was also pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices given the caliber of food and upmarket ambiance. This RSL has clearly invested in creating a resort-style facility with something for everyone. I would highly recommend booking Flame for a special occasion - it will not disappoint. This hidden gem is now firmly on my list of top Sydneys restaurants.
Banquet was pretty good. Missed taking pics of the dessert. With smaller numbers they do better from a service and food point of view. Amazing ability to cater for dietary situations. Ie gluten free.still a favourite restaurant
