Decent cafe for pancakes and brunch 🍓 Despite having pancakes in their name, I enjoyed their french toast more than the soufflé pancakes. Tried their savoury and sweet options and the food were quite yummy but I feel it’s quite expensive. The matcha french toast was made BEAUTIFULLY which paired well with the ice cream and strawberries. The mochi soufflé pancake tasted a bit dry and bland, same with the karaage pancakes. The chicken burger was very dense and was a big portion too. Service was good and the atmosphere was clean and easy to talk in.
This afternoon I had afternoon tea with my daughter at Gram. It wasn’t busy, and the desserts came out quite quickly, but unfortunately the quality was very disappointing. The main issue was one of the desserts my daughter ordered — a caramel dessert with a salty flavour. It was far too salty, to the point that it was almost inedible. When we raised this with the staff and mentioned that it seemed like too much salt had been added, the response we received was, “Didn’t you know it’s supposed to be salty?” Of course we understand it is meant to have a salted flavour, but that does not mean it should taste overwhelmingly salty. A balanced salted caramel dessert should still be enjoyable. What was even more disappointing was that there was no apology at all — only a response that they would “let the chef know.” We spent over $70 for two people, and for the dessert quality and service attitude to be like this was very disappointing. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won’t be coming back. I’m giving this my lowest rating. Just a note for everyone — please be careful if ordering the salted caramel dessert, as the salt was excessive. As for the chocolate dessert I ordered, it was also underwhelming. The chocolate and the cake/biscuit felt completely separate, almost like simply spreading chocolate sauce onto a piece of cake, without any real harmony in texture or flavour. Overall, a very disappointing experience today.
I have been here before when they were still somewhat new and a few times after covid. The pancakes were not like before. It has gone downhill since after covid but I thought maybe they were busy. When I went today, it wasn't busy. They tasted the same so flavour was still good. However, they were not as fluffy anymore which was disappointing as they were supposed to be souffle pancakes which were supposed to be fluffy. They were definitely fluffier when I first went.
I recently came back from Japan and I missed out on trying The Japanese Soufflé Pancakes over there. I had never tried them before and I knew of Gram Pancakes in Chatswood so I just had to give them a go. Well they were way beyond my expectations. I knew they would be amazing but seriously, they were the most incredible light, fluffy jiggly delights anyone could wish for on a plate. It was so enjoyable watching the smiles of everyone else eating and receiving their orders and it is no surprise why. Just go there, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Gram Pancakes for bringing a little slice of Japan to Sydney and allowing me to continue my holiday here at home.
A bit hidden away, well worth looking for. Service was a bit ordinary, there were two of us, one had nearly finished their meal by the time the other came out. Both tastes great as well as the drink. Very filling. Not a place you could afford to eat at every day. Will venture back for sure.
