Loved the malatang with the original Sichuan soup base and the dry spicy mix, both were full of flavour. The order came out quickly, which was great. Parking in the area is a bit of a hassle, but the food definitely made it worth it.
I would really like to give you five stars, just like I’ve done with other Malatang restaurants. However, the cleanliness — which can also be seen in the photos — left a lot to be desired and was far from what I was expecting from your place. I understand that all the food and vegetable containers are meant to be kept cool by the cold room located behind them. However, that doesn’t seem to be enough, as you can clearly see in one of the photos that the product labeled luncheon meat shows different shades of color. This indicates the presence of pathogens and bacteria, meaning the meat is contaminated and starting to spoil. The same applies to the scallops, which have dark spots that I’d rather not imagine what they could be. Also lettuce dried and without water in the container. Additionally, please urgently review the overall cleanliness — there was food mixed between containers and scattered on the floor. The bench where the bags and tongs are placed was also covered with water that had a strong, unpleasant, and greasy smell, clearly showing that the hygiene of that area is seriously compromised. I’m not sure what the explanation might be, but the lack of hygiene was absolutely clear and visible — especially considering there were only two occupied tables in the entire restaurant at the time, and during my whole visit, I didn’t see any cleaning being done, except for when staff started wiping tables only after noticing me looking around, surprised to find none clean. Finally, the soup tasted fine, just like in the other branches — nothing out of the ordinary. With other many options I won’t be back definitely.
When I got there, the ingredients weren’t even properly stocked. It was still enough for my order so I didn’t say anything. I live right next door, so I took it home straight away. Opened it and the lid wasn’t even sealed properly. I just thought, okay, these things happen, and ate it anyway. But the quality today was bad. The broth tasted really watered down, not rich at all. And the worst part was the crab stick still had the plastic wrapper on it… seriously? Also, what happened to the skewers today? I got chicken skin and drumstick fillet, and they were not crispy at all. Just soggy and under seasoned. Tasted like the oil temperature was off or it wasn’t fried properly. Honestly really disappointing.
I ordered takeout, but the food they delivered was all wrong and the portion was ridiculously small. Is this $5 worth of cilantro? Why don't they just rob me? Also, where's the chicken drumsticks I ordered?
I was underwhelmed coming here. Variety of options was alright. Then when they gave me my bowl after cooking, my chicken was still raw in the middle (luckily I checked before swallowing). They offered to re-cook and it was fine after, but still. It’s not a cheap place either. Hope they have improved since!
