My partner and I stayed at the Wildlife Retreat and had dinner and breakfast at Me-Gal. Dinner was perfect but it's quite pricey. The Wagyu steak, the red wine and dessert were delicious. The flavours were beautifully balanced, the presentation was delicate, and the overall dining experience felt refined and memorable especially with the view of the city. The staff were warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, and our waitress Iman was fantastic—attentive, informative, and genuinely welcoming. Breakfast, however, didn’t match the same standard. The buffet lacked the quality and care we experienced the night before. Staff were noticeably less engaging and not as helpful, and the food itself was underwhelming. It felt like a completely different venue in terms of service and atmosphere. Overall, dinner at Me‑Gal was outstanding, but the breakfast buffet fell short of expectations.
Beautiful food! One of the best meals I’ve had fine dining for a while. Every dish we got was delicious. The view is worth the meal itself. I loved the creativity of the desserts, and they were so yum! The staff were lovely and attentive. The vibe in the restaurant for lunch was very chill, calming music. Was nice to eat a good meal and just sit and enjoy the gorgeous view.
From start to finish this was the best restaurant experience I've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows with views of Sydney Harbour. We had a lovely seat with views of the harbour bridge and the opera house. The service was impeccable, very friendly and warm but not overbearing, and so attentive. We had some cocktails to start; my wife's came recommended by the waitress and it was a great recommendation. And mine was the flaming galah - set on fire with cinnamon sprinkled over it tableside - amazing. And the food was just sublime. we started with the focaccia; so insanely soft and buttery. Then the main course of the lamb shoulder to share; tender, juicy and served with a lovely salsa verde to cut through the richness. Had a side of broccolini to share - it was gorgeous, zesty, subtle char flavours. Could not fault the entire meal. The team here from front of house to kitchen to management should all be very proud of the establishment they run. We'll certainly be back again!
Had two meals here as we were staying overnight at the retreat. Our experience was mixed; dinner was great, while breakfast could be better. While some reviews may say that meals here were overpriced and the food service was not on par with the price, we found our dinner service quite enjoyable. The fish was delicious, the roasted chicken was fantastic, and the broccoli was good. We had a window seat and the view of the Sydney golden hour was spectacular. Our servers were sincere and made sure we were taken care of. Breakfast, however, was a different experience. The food selection. was not wide, but had the essentials. My main complaint is the work flow; There was a queue by the entrance waiting to be seated despite there being empty tables, though some of the empty tables still had uncleared dirty plates and cups from customers that had finished and left. Clearing these tables should have been prioritized so that new patrons could be seated and start helping themselves to the breakfast buffet, instead of just standing there waiting. There were four servers working, but it wasn't enough to handle the flow of breakfast service well, as they were kind of all over the place and working unsystematically. Our coffee order took 25 minutes, and somehow other patrons received their orders before us despite being seated and ordering much later than us.
We got to experience Me-Gal restaurant as part of our stay at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga Park Zoo. Special 3 course menu for guests. Lovely dining room location with views over the retreat and Sydney Harbour. The servings at Me-Gal are generous so bring your stomachs! The tuna for starters was lovely. So was the pasta and steak for mains. Staff was attentive and very nice. Love the fact we can just walk back to our rooms afterwards. A good restaurant for an intimate evening.
