Lovely Saturday night dinner at our local French restaurant monte. Menu is focused, and the value for money is great for the quality of dishes served. We tried the special of the day - slow cooked lamb gnocchi ragu, BBQ chicken and sticky date pudding. We also got the duck liver pate and chicken pie. All dishes were very delicious and nicely plated. Add friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere makes for a top evening.
It was a amazong experience. I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of the duck pâté, but it was so good that we ordered it twice! The steak and onion soufflé were also absolutely amazing. The desserts literally melted in my mouth, and I highly recommend the crème brûlée. Even my French partner, who has high standards for French cuisine, was very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the meal The service was exceptional as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant !
We came to Monte to celebrate Valentine’s Day and had a truly memorable dining experience. For entrée, we ordered the kingfish and the carpaccio. The kingfish was the clear winner — beautifully presented with creative, refreshing condiments that elevated the dish without overpowering the freshness of the fish. The carpaccio was also excellent, served with micro chips (thin French fries) that added a fun texture and made the dish feel thoughtfully curated. For mains, we chose the chicken pie and the pork belly. While both were delicious, the pork belly stood out. It was perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior, paired with a refreshing apple salad and an incredible sauce that brought everything together. The flavours were balanced and not overly savoury, allowing the quality of the pork to shine. The chicken pie was comforting and well executed, with fresh-tasting ingredients — especially the chicken and eggplant, which were full of flavour. Dessert was the perfect ending to the meal. We ordered the passionfruit soufflé and the crème brûlée. The passionfruit soufflé was the highlight of the night — easily the best we’ve had, light yet intensely flavourful. The crème brûlée was also unique and memorable, served with strawberry ice cream that added a lovely contrast. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with creative dishes, fresh ingredients, and thoughtful flavour combinations. A very memorable Valentine’s celebration, and we will definitely be back.
We had a delicious experience at Monte. Set in a quiet part of Leichhardt, yet the restaurant has a fun relaxed vibe and we pretty lively for a week night. They offer a 2 or 3 course menu ranging from $65 to $85. We loved the prawns, the duck breast which was succulent and had a more-ish sauce, the barramundi which was nicely balanced of buttery and zesty, and the lamb! For dessert you can't miss the signature passionfruit souffle or for something more decadent go for the Belgian dark chocolate fondant. You can byo only in week days (not Friday, Saturday or Sunday).
It is clear you can order 2 or 3 courses for a fixed price, selecting from the Entree, Main and Dessert sections of the menu. What is not quite as clear is the surcharge on the Barramundi and the Eye Fillet. Maybe management could improve on that as it was a bit if a surprise. The restaurant was very noisy when we arrived as it was almost full, but as the night wore on and people left, it quietened down and the atmosphere became quite pleasant. Anyway, the food..... my Duck Liver Pate for entree was good. I'm not much of a dessert eater but my Chocolate Fondant was nice but a think a little bit more Dulce de leche would have made it better. The highlight was my main course of a Grilled Black Angus Eye Fillet. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare with some Cafe de Paris on top and some mash and green beans on the side. The steak was tender, juicy and flavoursome.
