Authentic Singaporean food, but the quality is probably closer to a hawker center than to a proper restaurant at this price point (at least by Singapore standards). We ordered nasi lemak and Singapore stir-fried noodles. They tasted good (again, good as hawker center food, but not as you would expect from such a highly rated restaurant), but the presentation was a bit plain and unappetizing. Additionally, I would personally prefer a fried egg rather than an omelette in nasi lemak. We also tried the shrimp-paste fried chicken wings, which we found too salty (I drank 4 cups of water after eating one wing) and didn’t finish. I understand it’s an acquired taste to enjoy such unique flavrs, so I’m not writing this review based on my dislike for it — just to clarify that the issue for us was the salt level.

Situated directly on busy Parramatta road Auburn and with plenty of parking – literally – around the corner, this Chinese-Malaysian restaurant – Peranakans – offers delicious Nonya food, a fusion between Chinese and Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine. The restaurant has a friendly family-like atmosphere with plenty of locals and regulars, as it appeared, returning for one of their favourite dinners. Unfortunately, the Peranakans only opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for lunch and dinner. Our two mains were Nonya-style chicken Biryani with tasty fragrant basmati rice with chicken marinated with aromatic spices. It comes with pickles, yoghurt and salad served on the side. It is lighter than the traditional Pakistani or Indian Biryani. You can finish the richly filled plate. The second dish was Nonya-style beef Rendang consisting of succulent beef slowly stewed in a rich gravy with spices, herbs and chilli and paired well with coconut rice. This, too was a scrumptious dish. In the end, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Peranakans. As one can gather form the many locals, this is the kind of place, you want to go again. Exquisite.

Went last night for Father's Day dinner. Not really, actually just heard of the place from a colleague and my wife's Peranakan, so we HAVE to try this! Hahaha Plus! It's the only place to get Ayam Buah Keluak in Sydney! I think i heard ALL of Australia! It's a REALLY tedious dish to cook. The amount of preparation required is nuts! 😜 And we totally loved the dish! Not as good as my mother in law's of course! 😅😅😅 I cleaned the bowl, and if we weren't in a public place, i would have licked it! The Orh Luak was good too! My second favourite. Also enjoyed the Prawn Paste Chicken. Reservation is s must! And parking at the side street is sufficient. Even on Father's Day weekend we were able to find parking just about 100m away. Hahaha

First time here and I must say, I am very impressed!! As a native Singaporean, I can credibly attest to the authenticity of the dishes. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and we even ordered a couple more dishes to take home for another meal. For dessert… the durian pudding is to die for!! Can’t wait to come back!

Found the BEST chicken biryani in Sydney so far, with lot of herbs and spices used, but not mind numbingly spicy like Indian biryani in Harris park (too spicy till I can't taste anything). The rice was good and fragrant with bits of cloves in it which shows they didn't take shortcuts to cook it. Chicken had lots of the sauce and was tender, and I think it has some assam or tamarind which gives it a nice acidity for balance and doesn't feel as oily or heavy as normal biryani. It comes with cucumber, yummy achar and yoghurt. Nasi lemak with fried chicken was good too. Chicken nicely fried, Rice was good with a thin omelette (I don't like the traditional boiled eggs in my Nasi lemak which is usually cold). Just a pity there was no peanuts. The ikan bilis was nice and crispy but unfortunately too salty to eat. Comes with tomatos, cucumber and achar too. I usually eat their Singapore char kway teow and nonya laksa which is good too but I was really surprised to find a good biryani from a nonya restaurant. Will definitely be back. I am hoping one day they can have beef or mutton biryani on their menu too.
