Very yummy chilli mud crab, the best I had in Sydney. The beef ribs are also very tender and moist. Chef put a lot of thought and love to the dishes ! Must try if visiting the fish market! Lovely renovation and nice ambient, at the back side of the fish market, slightly hard to spot but worth to look for when around the area
If I could leave negative stars I actually would. I rarely am so disappointed with a place that I had high hopes for. I think the overall food was alright but given the high price points, they need to be more creative and improve their dishes. Firstly the so called „market price“ for their mud crab was outrageous. You can’t charge $188/kg when you are situated at the fish market with them selling the same mud crab for $60/kg like 5m away. I understand that I‘m dining in a restaurant but to overcharge by that much is just daylight robbery at this point. So we were actually lucky that we had the 50% mother‘s day special discount. I would‘ve not paid the full price. The crab was good (cause it was fresh & you can’t usually go wrong w fresh seafood) but still prefer the Singapore chili crab over their Malaysian version in taste. Their other dishes were very average. Tom yum dumplings that were overshadowed by soy sauce and overly salty and a scallop with cheong fun where the scallop was overcooked. If you are aiming to be a high-end seafood place (which seems implied by the pricing & pretty fitout) your service needs to meet the mark as well. To tell us that we couldn’t sit inside because earlier bookings took all the tables (despite us having made a reservation in advance) but then to take a walk in customer inside in front of me is just rude. The outdoor seating was super uncomfy & there‘s no heating outside for the evening (while the restaurant next door had it) Nothing wowed us at this place and definitely won’t be back.
I genuinely don’t understand how this restaurant has such a high Google rating based on my experience. I came here specifically for the Mud Crab, but this ended up being the most disappointing meal of my entire Sydney trip. I ordered a 1.2kg Salted Egg Mud Crab. The original price was AUD 188/kg, and after I spoke with the staff, they reduced it to AUD 169.2/kg, making the crab itself cost AUD 203.04. First, I’d like to mention the positives. The staff were willing to communicate with me, and the crab itself was fresh. What disappointed me was that the quality of this dish simply did not match its price. I ordered the Salted Egg flavour, but when the crab arrived, there was barely any salted egg sauce on it (as shown in the photos). Most of the sauce was stuck to the shell, while the crab meat itself had almost no flavour at all. I could barely taste any salted egg. I even wanted to dip the crab meat into the sauce, but there was hardly anything for the meat to pick up. After I raised my concerns, the staff kindly brought me an extra serving of salted egg sauce and two additional dipping sauces (also shown in the photos). Unfortunately, these made the experience even more disappointing. First, the extra salted egg sauce contained a large amount of oil. The salted egg had already clumped together, making it difficult for the crab meat to pick up any of the sauce. As for the other two sauces, one was a sweet butter sauce. It made the crab even greasier, and the flavour felt quite strange. The other sauce wasn’t bad, but it tasted like a basic salad-style sauce that you could easily buy from Coles. Neither of them came close to matching what I would expect for a dish at this price. ⸻ Overall, for a mud crab that ultimately cost over AUD 200, I don’t believe the final dish justified its price. The staff later told me that this particular Salted Egg style naturally comes with less sauce than Singapore Chilli Crab. However, I believe the restaurant has a responsibility to explain this to customers before they order or before the dish is served, rather than only mentioning it after I questioned why there was so little sauce. On the same day, the live mud crab at the Sydney Fish Market next door was selling for around AUD 45–50 per kilogram, and the cooking fee there is only about AUD 20. In my opinion, the flavour of this AUD 188/kg crab was no better than having the same crab cooked at the Fish Market for a total cost of around AUD 65–70 per kg.
The food here is absolutely incredible. The Singapore mud crab was the real star, but honestly, every single appetizer and main course we tried was just as delicious. It's super easy to find, too—just walk straight through the fish market, head out the other doors, turn right, and it's right there.
The most delicious food I’ve had in a while! We had booked for a big group (26 in total) and could not fault the service, staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about each dish, and the dishes came out relatively quick. Every single dish that we ordered had so much flavour without being overpowering. Can’t pick a favourite as every dish was incredible but some standouts were - prawn toast, grilled octopus, tom yum bomb, Malaysian chilli mud crab, and short ribs. First time trying this restaurant and can’t wait to be back to try other items on the menu.
