I recently visited the Sydney Fish Market at Pyrmont and really enjoyed the experience. There was a huge variety of fresh seafood on offer, and everything looked incredibly fresh and well presented. The atmosphere was lively and bustling, with plenty to see and sample. We grabbed some fish and chips and enjoyed them by the water, which made for a great lunch with a view. Whether you’re looking to buy fresh seafood or just enjoy a meal, it’s a great Sydney destination that is well worth a visit.
Fish Market Cafe was our go to spot for a seafood platter, and it made the whole decision process so easy. Sometimes you do not want to overthink your meal, and having a solid platter option ready to go took all the guesswork out of it. Easy choice and a yummy one at that. The platter itself delivered on the goods. Plenty of variety, everything cooked well, and that satisfying feeling of getting a proper spread of seafood in one hit. It is exactly what you want when you are after a fuss free feed that still ticks all the boxes. What made us especially grateful was that it was the only fried fish place open on a Thursday night. When most spots have shut up shop, finding somewhere still serving up quality seafood is a genuine relief. Open and delicious beats closed every time. There is something to be said for a place that comes through when you need it most, and Fish Market Cafe did exactly that for us. Reliable, tasty and there when the other options were not. If you are after an easy seafood platter or find yourself needing a feed on a quiet night, give Fish Market Cafe a go. We were glad we did. Highly recommend.
The Fish Market Café was a disappointing experience. I understand they're catering to huge crowds and need to serve a high volume of customers, but that's all the more reason for the operation to be well organised. Rather than showcasing the best of Australia's seafood, the menu felt heavily focused on fried food. We could see our meals sitting ready while staff attended to other tasks, so they weren't as fresh or hot by the time they reached us. It wasn't that the staff weren't busy they clearly were but the overall operation felt disjointed and the customer experience suffered as a result. Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated experience. We also visited shortly after the market first opened and found much the same. On that occasion, a cold salad was placed directly on top of the hot fish and chips, leaving both worse for it. These may seem like small details, but they reflect a lack of attention to the overall dining experience. The new Sydney Fish Market is an incredible venue with access to some of the best seafood in Australia. That's what makes this feel like such a missed opportunity. The café has all the ingredients to be outstanding it just needs an operation that matches the quality and reputation of the market itself.
Great food! now at an even better location! Pricey but the quality and the flavours/taste make up for it. The whole fish market is very busy and where these guys are located (right at the front) would get A LOT of attention and foot traffic. Which means the staff are going to be always on display and that’s tiring. The team members seemed very tired by noon, and customer service was very much minimal. Don’t bother asking questions or do small talks here. Just tell them what you want and they’ll put it together nicely. Despite the coldness of the staff, the food comes out HOT and absolutely delicious. Spent around $150 between 3 blokes. We were fed well. It would’ve been good if they gave out some sauce for customers getting platters. Definitely would recommend the place even though the price has some novelty value added into it.
We absolutely LOVE this place. It’s always been our go to place for amazing seafood. We’ve come here for a few years now and cannot wait to see the new fish market open and what they do to this cafe. The service is quite quick despite having hundreds of people there all the time, especially around Christmas time. The sushi, oysters, mornays, hot chips, rice, octopus, fish etc is by far the best. Everything goes so well with each other especially their hot chips! Plenty of seating outside if you don’t find inside, but this entire fish market can get extremely busy and crowded, so certainly plan ahead. Will always keep going here as it’s 10/10! Edit: The new Fish Market let us down unfortunately. Portions have gone smaller, you get less food and price has gone up. Disappointing as this was our favourite place to eat seafood 😢
