★★★★★ A hidden gem for authentic Shanghainese food in Sydney. You can really tell the chef has years of experience—every dish tastes like it’s been thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend the Shanghai smoked fish, sautéed eel, salted egg yolk tofu and Chinese-style beef. Everything was delicious, and even the oyster sauce lettuce was surprisingly memorable. Great food, generous portions and friendly service. Definitely a restaurant I’ll be coming back to!
I really enjoyed dining at Taste on the Rocks. The dishes are beautifully prepared with authentic old Shanghai flavors. The Stir-Fried Pork Liver in Brown Sauce was rich and flavorful, while the Crispy Yellow Croaker with Seaweed was light, crispy, and delicious. A great place for authentic Shanghainese cuisine!
Their dishes are mainly Shanghainese and Huaiyang style. We tried the xiao long bao, dry pot cabbage and honey chicken, and everything was tasty. Would definitely love to come back and try more dishes next time!
This is such a hidden gem! Sitting right in the middle of The Rocks, you wouldn’t expect to find a Chinese restaurant this authentic. The location is perfect, and the food is outstanding. Everything we ordered tasted genuinely authentic. My absolute favorites were the Snow Crab (so fresh!) and the stinky Tofu with Edamame . This is definitely going to be one of our new favorite spots in the city. In my view, this is easily one of the top three best Chinese restaurants in Sydney. Highly recommended!
The crispy fried prawns are seriously addictive and the flaming squid and pork hotplate is so fun to share. Great Shanghai-style home cooking in the heart of Sydney
