We had a truly wonderful lunch at Margaret. We began with a selection of appetizers and their incredible bread, which was so good it set the tone for the rest of the meal. For the mains, we ordered the steak and the fish—both were absolutely outstanding. The fish was especially superb: beautifully cooked, incredibly fresh, and one of the best dishes we’ve had in a long time. We finished with dessert, which was the perfect ending to an exceptional meal. What made the experience even more memorable was when Chef Perry came out from the kitchen to say hello to our table. It was such a thoughtful gesture and added a personal touch that we really appreciated. The service was impeccable throughout—warm, professional, and attentive without ever being intrusive. The team struck the perfect balance of making us feel well looked after while allowing us to enjoy our meal at our own pace. Margaret delivers not only outstanding food but also genuine hospitality. We left thoroughly impressed. Highly recommended.

Margaret lunch experience with the 3rd best burger in the world and best in Australia. The cheese burger was great. To say it was the best burger I had, I cannot. but it was a very good burger. The margret burger was also very good but the cheeseburger was better. Tuna sashimi was exceptional, unbelievable flavour. Was the star of the show. The tartare was nice. It needed acidity to cut through the flavour. Quality is not a question here everything is of high quality you can see it taste it and feel it. You definitely pay for what you get. I cannot wait to try Margaret restaurant. It is worth the visit and experience. Staff were amazing too.

When a restaurant has been crowned the No. 1 Best Steak Restaurant in Australia and No. 2 Best Steak Restaurant in the World by the authoritative World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants guide, expectations are sky-high. So, my son and I headed to Margaret in Double Bay for a special mother-and-son date night, expecting a standing ovation. By the end of the evening, however, we were left wondering… second best in the world according to whom? The evening started well enough. I opted for sparkling water while my son enjoyed two Czech Mate beers, which were excellent and probably the first winners of the night. The Entrée Parade The Garlic Focaccia was delicious, although the accompanying butter didn't quite hit the mark. Then came the 10g Black Pearl White Sturgeon Caviar Tartlet. At $49 for a bite-sized tartlet, I expected fireworks. Instead, I mostly tasted salt, followed by a hint of fish that arrived a little too late to save the performance. The Ceviche of Jack's Red Snapper was again slightly salty and otherwise forgettable. There was also an unexpected appearance by tomatoes that weren't mentioned on the menu—an uninvited clown jumping out of a tiny car. Thankfully, the Lobster Ravioli with Black Vinegar and Chilli Oil saved the day. Four generously sized ravioli with beautifully seasoned filling and easily the dish of the evening. The Spencer Gulf King Prawns with Roast Pepper Salsa unfortunately suffered from the same problem as several other dishes—the salsa completely overpowered the prawns and would have been far better served on the side. The Main Event I ordered Ben's Coral Trout with XO Butter, but sadly the butter completely masked the delicate flavour of the fish. Our waiter kindly offered to replace it, but by then I had reached my limit. Then came the headline act: my son's 500g Dry-Aged Bone-In Sirloin. This is where the circus really began. Some parts were medium rare, others overcooked, and instead of being melt-in-your-mouth, the steak was slightly chewy. When my son mentioned this, we were told that sirloin is a tougher cut. Respectfully… no. A good chef can still cook a sirloin beautifully, particularly in a restaurant celebrated as one of the world's best steakhouses. The Grilled Corn Purée with Chipotle Butter continued the night's theme of unnecessary toppings, and I found myself digging underneath for the plain grilled corn. By this point, we declined dessert, although our wonderful waiter brought us a little chocolate cupcake that was rich, delicious and a lovely gesture. The Final Bow The staff at Margaret were exceptional, professional, attentive and genuinely lovely. They handled everything with grace and deserve enormous praise. The menu, however, felt too large, and we found ourselves asking, "What would you recommend?" That's never a great sign. And parking in Double Bay remains its own circus act, though thankfully we managed to find a spot. I truly wanted to love Margaret, but for us it simply didn't live up to the hype. Too many dishes were overwhelmed by sauces and toppings, and the internationally acclaimed steak failed to deliver. Margaret, you're not terrible… you're just overrated. Will we return? I'm not going to answer that question

Both my girlfriend and I were they're to celebrate her birthday and our anniversary. We were amazed at the service, the quality of the dishes brought out and the pace of the staff attending to a packed restaurant. For entrees, we ordered Lobster Ravioli with Black Vinegar and Chilli Oil along with Yamba Pipis with Mexican XO and Garlic Shoots. Both were brought out quickly - delicious and beautifully presented. Pipis had a nice kick of spice. Wish we had some bread to soak up all the left over juices from both entrees. The mains, we decided on the 800g Dry-Aged CopperTree 36 Month Grass-Fed Hereford Ribeye. The picture speaks for itself. Served medium-rare, with a side of Wentworth’s Twice Cooked Crisp and Creamy Potatoes. All paired with a glass of a couple reds from Barossa and Margaret River. With all that being said, it definitely reflected their recent accolade of named #1 in AU and #2 globally. Thank you to all the staff and chefs for making our night memorable.

I had an excellent dining experience at Margaret. The restaurant truly lives up to its reputation, especially when it comes to steak. The steak was outstanding — perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and full of flavour. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in the cooking. It was easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Sydney. The service was just as impressive. The staff were attentive, professional, and made the whole experience feel very welcoming and comfortable. A special thank you to the manager as well, who was incredibly warm and ensured everything during the meal was perfect. Overall, Margaret delivers on both food and hospitality. Amazing steak, great atmosphere, and excellent service — I would definitely return the next time I’m in Sydney.
