This is the BEST fish and chip shop in the world tying with one other place (Neutral Bay Seafood). Located in The Canteen in Barangaroo, Costi's Fish and Chips is a popular lunch break place mainly for workers in the city (but for anyone else too). Food We ordered 1 Grilled Fish of the Day (no chips, no salad), 1 Costi's Healthy Choice with garden salad and chips and 1 Battered Fish (no chips no salad). Our order is for 2 people but no one actually has to follow what we ordered. Costi's healthy choice includes 1 grilled fish, one LARGE serving of chips or brown rice, but we chose chips (all Costi's' orders, unless you explicitly tell them not to, add a generous serving of chips) and a garden salad. The plain grilled fish is the same as the one in the healthy choice. The battered fish is a New Zealand Hoki. The Taste The staff will ask you whether you want everything to be seasoned with normal salt, chicken salt or no salt. Everything is already flavourful enough so it is not ABSOLUTELY necessary to add salt if you are on a lower sodium diet or if you don't like overly salty food. The Garden Salad: It is tasteless so add your own sauces and seasoning (available to the left from the area where you order food). It is a mix of greens, shredded carrot, tomato, lettuces (it is a pretty standard salad). The Chips: These are crispy on the outside, molten hot on the inside and so buttery soft. These melt in your mouth and are the perfect accompaniment to the fish. The Battered Fish: Costi's does a wonderful NZ Hoki fried in the classic Australian style. It is fresh, delicious and doesn't make you feel like you drank a bottle of vegetable oil after you finish it. Delightfully crispy on the outside and fish flaking perfectly on the inside, this is a near perfect Battered fish. The Grilled Fish: This is the highlight of Costi's. A market fresh piece of Basa is grilled on a teppanyaki/hot plate until golden brown. Then, it is rubbed with the most delicious butter/olive oil, lemony and herby mix. It flakes BEAUTIFULLY and is the best piece of fish in the world. I could not recommend this enough to anyone seeking the quintessential Australian meal. The Service The service in Costi's is understanding of allergies, intolerances and can accommodate requests for fish to be in a different box or on the side etc. They do an excellent job of making customers feel in good hands in a loud environment where it is hard to hear anyone. Final Thoughts If you should put anything on your bucket list in Sydney, it should be to try Costi's. I am confident that this is the best fish and chip shop in the world.

Service was excellent. Friendly staff, very attentive to customers. Visiting from NZ and absolutely loved the fish and chips. Batter was light, crispy and very tasty. Fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. Tried a lot of the menu and loved it all! Chur #upthewahs

HORRIBLE FRESHNESS on the barramundi. Service is great but had the chimmichuri barramundi and it tasted really fishy and unfresh. I also started to feel sick not long after. This is odd as the “normal” grilled fish is fine but the one time I tried the barrumundi it was unfresh and made me ill.

On our recent trip to Sydney my wife and I stopped by Costi’s to try their Fish & Chips. They did not disappoint at all. Ample serving size at a great price. It was so good we went back the next day to try it again. Delicious! Friendly staff and great food at a great price!
