I came here based on the good reviews, but honestly, it was a hit-or-miss experience. Soft cell crab curry was the highlight—perfectly fried and the curry sauce was well-balanced without being too salty. Padthai was beautifully with the Thai-style veal, which was slightly salty but still very enjoyable. The Coconut Pandan Ice was also a winner—refreshing and highly recommended. However, the rest was disappointing. I found the Tom Yum Soup way too salty. Even though I specifically asked the staff for less salt, it was still nearly undrinkable. As for the Grilled Beef(crying, tiger), it was a total letdown and definitely not worth ordering. THESE TWO ARE STRONGLY, NOT RECOMMEND.!! I already let the staff know that beef was not so good it was overcooked. But I don’t think they take it seriously. She just said OK and no action was taken. Hopefully they take the matter seriously. Don't believe all the hype—be selective with what you order here or you'll be wasting your money.
Chat Thai Haymarket has been one of my go-to Thai restaurants since my university days, so it was wonderful to come back and find that it’s still just as good. We ordered the crab fried rice, stir-fried Chinese kale with pork belly, Thai boat noodle soup, and the grilled pork jowl. Every dish was packed with authentic Thai flavors. The crab fried rice was fragrant and comforting, the Chinese kale paired perfectly with the tender pork belly, and the boat noodle soup had a rich, deeply flavorful broth. The grilled pork jowl was the standout—beautifully charred, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. What impressed us even more was the generous portion sizes. Those four dishes were more than enough for the five of us to share comfortably, making it great value as well. It’s always nice when a place you loved years ago still delivers such a satisfying meal. Chat Thai continues to be one of my favorite Thai spots in Sydney, and I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m in town.
All the food we had is superb.. pacing was great too, very fast and friendly service. Portion very generous. Location easy to find, small and busy restaurant. They do take booking reservations. Kids can enjoy the food too. So many options of fried rice that not spicy. Overall we were pretty happy. Will definitely back for more❤️
Absolutely love Chat Thai! The fried rice is always so delicious—it's the main reason I keep coming back. The stir-fry was also incredibly tasty and full of flavour. Every meal I've had here has been consistently great. One of the best Thai restaurants in the city. Highly recommend!
Visited on 13 June 2026. Ordered SEN MEE PADT GOONG for 32 Aussie Dollars & TODT MUN GOONG for 22 Aussie Dollars. As a frequent visitor to Bangkok, I wondered if the food be that great. I think the prawn was tasty and the Todt Mun Goong was also quite fresh. Worth it and the seafood quality here might be better than that in Bangkok. Recommended.
