Visited Saravanaa Bhavan North Sydney today and tried the Rava Masala Dosa, Mysore Masala Dosa, Lunch Thali Meal, and Idly. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Rava Masala Dosa it was crispy, flavourful, and absolutely delicious. The idly was served hot, soft, and fresh, and paired perfectly with the authentic-tasting sambar. The Mysore Masala Dosa was also enjoyable. Unfortunately, the Lunch Thali Meal did not meet my expectations and was the least impressive dish of the visit. If you're planning to visit, I would highly recommend trying the Idly and Rava Masala Dosa. Great taste, authentic flavours, and a satisfying South Indian experience overall.
⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 Star) We have been visiting Saravana Bhavan for more than 10 years and have dined at several of their locations, including Parramatta, North Sydney and Townhall. North Sydney has been our regular restaurant for almost a decade, which is why it is disappointing to write this review. Over the years, we've noticed a steady decline in both the portion sizes and the overall value for money, while the prices have continued to increase. When we first started visiting, the puri bhaji came with three large puris, along with generous servings of sabzi and curry. Later, this was reduced to two puris, with additional puris available for an extra charge. The puris themselves also became noticeably smaller. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was the most disappointing yet. A single puri was priced at $5.40 without any side dish. Two puris with a very small serving of sabzi - which contained barely one and a half pieces of cauliflower-cost almost $18. I've attached photos of the food and the menu prices because I simply don't believe this represents good value for the money being charged. The service also left a lot to be desired. The staff member who served us wasn't welcoming or friendly, and the overall experience felt quite impersonal. I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for a restaurant we've supported for so many years. However, after a decade of loyal visits, this experience was genuinely disappointing. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and considers improving both the portion sizes and the customer experience.
A wonderful experience at Sarbat Bhavan! The food was fresh, authentic, and full of traditional South Indian flavours. From the crispy dosas to the delicious chutneys and perfectly made dosas and we had coffee, everything was prepared with great care and quality. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and had a warm family-friendly atmosphere. The staff were courteous, attentive, and ensured we had a pleasant dining experience from start to finish.
North Sydney's hidden gem of an Indian restaurant. Authentic South Indian dishes including the signature Dhosa varieties, idly and pongal. Great food portions and excellent quality. The seating area is small but cozy and few outdoor seats available. Weekends have special thali offering. Located just besides Victoria Cross metro station.
The channa samosa chaat was really good and the standout dish. It was very valuable and a good portion. The dosa was crispy but a little bit oily. The size of the dosa was huge. The potato filling was okay, it was a bit soggy but overall the dosa really good. The sauces that came with the dosa were just okay. The thali was a decent portion, variety of vegetarian dishes and was quite good, but a bit expensive for what you get.
