Bun Me in Leichhardt is a decent spot for a quick Vietnamese feed. My boss and I stopped by for lunch and decided to go with their classic banh mi. It wasn’t bad at all — fresh bread with a nice crunch, good flavour balance, and the fillings were generous enough. Definitely not the worst I’ve had, but not quite the standout I was hoping for either. The flavours were solid — the pickled veggies had that nice tang, and the pork was seasoned well — but overall it felt a little pricey for what you get. For me, it sat somewhere in the middle range: enjoyable, but didn’t quite hit that “wow” factor you sometimes find in smaller, hole-in-the-wall Viet places. That said, the service was friendly and quick, and the shop itself was clean and easy to find. I’d happily come back to try their noodle dishes or rice plates next time, because I get the sense that’s where they really shine. If you’re in the area and craving a decent banh mi, Bun Me will do the job — just don’t expect it to blow your mind. Still a nice, easy lunch spot.
Am I being unreasonable?? Time: 3:40pm on a Sunday I stood at the counter, the female staff member saw me. I waited for a few seconds while reading the menu. Then she said, "We are eating, come back later" Surprised and I thought I heard it wrong. So I asked... "I want to order, are you saying you are not taking my order because you are eating???" She said, "YES. Come back in 30 mins" I said... "I can't wait 30 mins, I've to be somewhere". She then said "How about 15 to 20 mins?!" No thanks!!! Word of advice future patrons.. if you are hungry... in need of food. Reconsider if they will serve you or not... Am I being unreasonable?? That's the most bizarre experience I've ever encountered.
Extremely disappointing. Zero flavour in the pho soup. The noodles weren’t horrible but the pho was so bad that nothing can make up for it. Never again.
Always tasty and very good. On Norton street opens out to street front. Prices very good too.
A few years ago go this place was the go-to for crackling pork banh mi. I think it’s has a few owner changes since, but sadly one of those instances where the prices have gone up but the quality has not remained consistent, not to mention the staff inconsistent portioning…shame.
