I randomly saw a sponsored post about Lady Chu and as an old customer of Miss Chu I was intrigued. The responses to the negative reviews shows this fiery little Dragon has lost none of her spark. Experience has taught me to visit during the quiet hours between lunch and dinner when Lady Chu would be calmer and not triggered by her PTSD which locks her adrenals into fight mode. If you plan to visit during the peak hour of dinner or lunch it’s safest to book ahead or walk in on a quiet rainy day and also spend 10-20mins studying the menu so you can quickly order and not suffer the Wrath of Chu. Then again any Londoners who enjoyed the novelty of getting shouted at on a visit to Wong Kei Chinese restaurant will feel right at home walking in and asking Mistress Chu for a table at 8pm on a warm Saturday evening. But I digress. I was eager to relive the taste of the Miss Chu tuck shop at Darlinghurst. There were plenty of table around 4:30pm but even then I was walking on egg shells to not awaken the dragon. However this time around I did not get to catch up with Lady Chu. Instead I was greeted by a lovely old chap who offered the type of pleasant service that a fine dining customer would expect. I ordered 2 different rice paper rolls; prawn and roast duck. That might have been a mistake as these weren’t your small poverty rolls from the local Vietnamese takeaway. These rolls were jumbo sized portions of tastiness and I was actually full and was dreading the main course but luckily I had ordered the sparkling water to help with digestion. The main course was the lemongrass beef vermicelli salad which was delicious as well. If I am in the area again I would try some of the fusion dishes on the specials menu.

Hit up Lady Chu for a girls’ night out – used to live around the corner, so it felt like home again…was so nice to walk up to a vibrant welcoming and a street lined with people chilln’ on a Friday evening . Vibes were fun, food was fire, and the laughs just kept coming. The outdoor setup is perfect, and the staff were genuinely awesome. Big shoutout to Nahji who made us feel like VIPs and even came over to say what’s up. Absolute legend. Having so much fun I didn’t take many pics, but the wine and the food were abundant and I did take many manage to snap the delicious Banh Xeo! Definitely will be back when we are in town again!

Food is whatever. I came to see amazing lady Chu as she’s an icon and she wasn’t even there!! Vibes are 10/10 staff are 8/10 food is 4/10. Got a beef salad and it so dry it was like leather. See image attached Wasn’t even offered the infamous “bump” menu? Would I come again?? Maybe if I can bring my karaoke machine to the green room.

When I first moved to Sydney I did a trial shift at Lady Chu and met Nahji Chu who was genuinely one of the kindest people I've met. I later visited with my partner and absolutely loved it! The food the atmosphere and the overall experience are excellent. This place quickly became my favourite restaurant in Sydney and I always enjoy visiting.

Everyone, including the servers, bartender, and amazing Lady Chu, has been kind and wonderful. I made a reservation for 5pm and sat outside in the magical atmosphere. The Peking Duck pancakes are particularly delicious, the best duck I've had since visiting Beijing. More than a fine restaurant, this is a haven.
